Guest guest
There is a new hidden gem out there for parents like us. Hattie Larlham, in Mantua, recently opened a special needs playcenter. For the last 3 Saturdays, I have taken my PDD, 4 year old son there to play in a completely non-judgemental atmosphere with more than enough games, toys, and activities to keep him buys for 2-3 hours. Hattie is a medical facility for severely affected kids so they know exactly what we go through. They charge $5 per person for as long as you care to stay...and I have trouble getting my son to leave after 3 hours. That $5 fee applies to parents, sibs, etc. While it would be nice if we were free, they have a tremendous amount of brand new activities so I feel the cost is justified. There are so many cool toys and games to play, a lunchroom, and a sensory room. I also have taken my typical daughter and she loves it too, especially the music area, the costumes, and the puppet theatre. The only drawback is the location is a little out there, but I can assure you it is worth trying...just don't get lost as you are in the middle of the country. My son has a great time there...and I use it as a bargaining chip during the week to remind him if he's a good listener, we'll spend our Saturday there. He now chants 'Play Center' around the house all week in anticipation. The website for Hattie doesn't really do it justice...but here's the link anyway. They also do birthday parties, camps, etc. http://www.hattielarlham.org/home/program/play/index.htm I urge you to try it. There is finally a place to go and let your kids romp around and not worry what other parents think. I just love it and am so thankful for this place.
