Guest guest
, I would suggest using white vinegar. Then use the hand attachment for your rug shampoo machine (if you have one wash and rinse machine well first) If not use a towel to sop it up after letting it sit for a few. The vinager will help with the odor and the stain. You may need to do it a few times. The smell of vinager will go away once it drys. Its amazing what vinager can do. When my son has accidents in his underware I soak it in vinager then wash it. No stain no smell. Make sure you air out the mattress for a while and then try to find a cover walmart sells them pretty cheap, then it will make it easier on you. Or you could buy some chucks pads (thats what I call them not sure if the spelling is right or not) and lay a couple under the fitted sheet (to avoid mouthing or picking at cotton to eat) then you can throw them away and it will also absorb the urine. You still need to wash sheets often but it may make it easier. Hope this helps. Have a good day:-) a > > hello, > > I was wondering if anyone was able to give me some suggestions re. cleaning urine out of a bed mattrace. My son would fully empty his bladder as he is woken by probably a seizure at night. I need to get the stain/odor out and dont know what to use that is safe. Can someone recommend anything? Guest guest
I soak up all I can with microfiber, then wash the surface with water and again soak it up with the microfiber, then use the Norwex mattress cleaner which eliminates all organic material (Full disclosure - I started selling this when I had to quit to help heal my kids!) This also allowed us to stop using our air cleaner around the clock as it eliminated the triggers to our dust allergies. > > hello, > > I was wondering if anyone was able to give me some suggestions re. cleaning urine out of a bed mattrace. Guest guest
I wanted to mention if you can bring your mattress outside, the sun has really great qualities of cleaning and removal of smell on top of all the tips you've gotten. I have water proof mattress pads on my kids beds, they work! Tammy [ ] Re: How to clean pee from mattrace (bed) without using toxic cleaners? , I would suggest using white vinegar. Guest guest
Thanks for all the suggestions! I did the vinegar thing (but will look into Norwex :-) and the smell is gone indeed. I have a mattrace cover but my son rips sheets off.....so difficult to find a good solution..... It's a king size bed - so i really cant take it outside. Wish I could! I love the smell of linens that hang in the sun. Again, thank you! > > > > hello, > > > > I was wondering if anyone was able to give me some suggestions re. cleaning urine out of a bed mattrace. Guest guest
: I would have the mattress steam cleaned. You should also buy a vinyl mattress protector. This way you would only have to wash the fitted sheet and mattress pad. Guest guest
Something I had good results with some years ago: Baking soda. Sprinkle it on generously. Let it sit a while (say, at least 30 minutes). Vacuum it off. (Clean the vacuum cleaner attachment that you use first, though.) Guest guest
, White vinegar should work. White vinegar can be used on practically anything -- including laundry. This is what we use to clean up messes (and eliminate odors). Thanks. Debbie Z.
Guest guest
Dilute the vinegar, and after sprinkle heavily baking soda, then after drying vacuum with hose ; ) I have had to do this with carpeting. Always first soak up urine with towels as dry as you can get, before wetting and scrubbing though. Sue > > : > > I would have the mattress steam cleaned. Guest guest
Thank you to all those wh responded!! I went with the white vinegar thing - it smells of vinegar now but not off pee :-) yay! Btw, I do have a waterproof mattrace cover that is fitted but the plastic gets worn out/tears after a few times in the wash - gets expensive and does not work, really. That particular night last week I did not have the cover on b/c my son has been ripping off the sheets and it was so frustrating to keep him from doing it. He would still sneak and rip the sheets off, despite me trying to have him keep them on, and in the end we were just happy that he went to sleep on top of all sheets, covers, blankets, all the pillows he could find in the house....that's how he has been going to bed lately!! he has to be on top of the pile! he never stops surprising me with the new things he comes up with to sooth himself. Then he had these two accidents last week - one in my bed (he comes to sleep with us in the middle of the night) and one in his own, when I think he was woken very suddenly by a seizure, so he was disoriented and did things he nrmally would not do. Like in my bed - he actually woke up at 4 am and I was woken by his giggle: he was peeing on my pillow, aiming at them with his urine. This must have been a seizure as he does not do this ever! so, we were a bit caught off guard. He hasnt had accidents like this in months. Something new to discuss with his neurologist :-( I am thankful for all your suggestions. I will look into natural cleaners so that I can have them handy when I need them but the vinegar thing seems to work for now! I wish I could put the mattrace in the sun but it is a KING - not possible, unfortunately!! Thanks again, > > > > hello, > > > > I was wondering if anyone was able to give me some suggestions re. cleaning urine out of a bed mattrace. Guest guest
There are water proof mattress pads that aren't plastic and are nice and don't make noises, like regular mattress pads. I work for a major department store, domestics. And they really work. A king can run about $90. There are just the plastic type protectors for $15 but you are right, the ripe, don't stay on well, can not wash with a lot of luck and are noisy. At least a pillow you can put in the washing machine. Not fun. Maybe an over night diaper to be safe if works. It's a ton of laundry. Guest guest
Hi, you need to look at the website for The Bedwetting Store, they are the only company whose mattress pad that is waterproof works, they are more expensive , but last and last.. trust me, I have been doing this for 19yrs. I don't know how old your child is or if you have a girl or a boy, please share and I will let you know how to handle this also, if they are in pull ups etc.. Hang in there..
