Guest guest
We weren't entirely on our own, but we set up a schedule with a tutor for our 2 year old that was based on a Responsive Teaching study we were enrolled in at the time. We went in every 2 weeks to determine goals and do a practice session that would then be implemented at hom. The program did/does have a workbook and interactive CD for parent planning though - perhaps there is a similar thing out there for ABA? We paid out of pocket $15 for the tutor and were very happy. We found her on a link from the Milestones website and she'd already received some training in RT. She also attended some of the sessions with us. Hope at least this helps generate some ideas... > > Thank you in advance for your help! We are going to do some ABA at home for the summer with our preschooler who has ASD. Has anyone (parents) ever had to devise and plan the program themselves? If so, we need some advice or suggestions for getting started. We may be able to get some help from a consultant but we can only afford our tutor and not many of the area consultants,so that is not an option, FYI. We would love to hear from area parents who have attempted this themselves and some tips for how to manage, recording data, paying your tutor, etc. > Thank you again! >
Guest guest
Could you afford the consultant to evaluate? Also, I'm wondering if there are any psychologists (insurance covered) that can perform the ABLLS? You need a baseline so you can determine appropriate intervention. I'm wondering if DePolo might do this (from the Kidslink practice). Something you might want to consider.AmyFrom: speedingkiwi <dhoffman@...>Subject: [ ] Re: ABA home programs Date: Thursday, May 14, 2009, 8:42 AM We weren't entirely on our own, but we set up a schedule with a tutor for our 2 year old that was based on a Responsive Teaching study we were enrolled in at the time. Guest guest
Something else I just learned - if your insurance won't cover a psychologist who will do this, and your county mrdd board won't provide it, the Early Intervention system of payment will cover the consultation as payer of last resort, though they won't pay the actual ABA tutors. The paperwork is a pain in the neck but just putting it out there as an option. Also, don't do as I did and avoid applying for Healthy Start insurance for your kids - even if you have insurance they can be secondary, and your income can be much higher than Medicaid and still qualify. > > > > > > Thank you in advance for your help! Guest guest
Where do you live? I run my home program. I've designed a beginning checklist, and I also have experience with the ABLLS. If you want to talk more about it, please email me at ddzlaw@.... I could meet with you and share some of my information. Thanks. Debbie Z.
