Guest guest
this was never anything i thought much about, until i read how to raise a healthy child...by mendelsohn. i took our first son in for his faithfully, and hudson has been a few times, during his first month, b/c we were watching weight loss. i don't know if i'd have continued or not if the following hadn't occurred: at the last visit, when the pedi was satisfied he was on the upswing, he said to just bring him back at the 2 month mark. then he said, " does he feel warm to you? " i said no, but the doc wasn't satisfied, and had a nurse come in to take a rectal temp, which took 5 minutes and made him scream, all for no reason b/c he was perfectly normal. the pedi was LOOKING for something, imo, to keep us coming back frequently, something to treat b/c he couldn't be satisfied that all was well. we ran into the same thing with ryker's pedi when ryker was newborn. he isn't circ'd, and the pedi had him catheterized when he was just a couple weeks old b/c " uncirc'd boys are more prone to uti's " so he wanted a urine sample. it was heading the same direction with hudson at that last visit, the pedi said he'd want a sample if his temp was over a certain point. no way was i letting that happen again!! it was awful for ryker and us, and i wasn't letting them do it to hudson w/o just cause. so, we haven't returned. sometimes i get a little antsy, thinking what if there's some problem we don't know about b/c i'm not taking him, etc, but i also am aware that the doc's office is one of the germiest places to be! tami
Guest guest
This is so sad! I've never had a problem with our doctor (not a pediatrician though, does that make a difference?). She has never gone looking for something wrong, always the first to say, " Well his/her ears are a bit pink, but certainly nothing I'd treat " and seems happy when nothing's wrong. So I've never really had a concern about bringing the kids in for well baby visits. But then again, that was all before we stopped vaccinating. I guess we'll see what happens now! well baby >From: Steve/Tami <appraise@...> > >this was never anything i thought much about, until i read how to raise a >healthy child...by mendelsohn. i took our first son in for his faithfully, >and hudson has been a few times, during his first month, b/c we were >watching weight loss. i don't know if i'd have continued or not if the >following hadn't occurred: > >at the last visit, when the pedi was satisfied he was on the upswing, he >said to just bring him back at the 2 month mark. then he said, " does he >feel warm to you? Guest guest
I am also not personally against " well baby " checkups...I just don't take my daughter simply because the doctors I've come across are not as understanding when it comes to not vaccinating. I choose not to deal with the stress involved. I don't feel I have to answer to them to let them know that I am a responsible parent. However, it would be irresponsible of me not to take her for emergency care...These provac docs do not realize how they scare parents away by insisting that they vaccinate and also involving CPS if you don't. I can do without that hassle! , queenearth@... Well baby >From: Lone Soto <lsoto@...> > >I don't really have anything against well baby checks - didn't have any problems >with my ped about not vaccinating either he would just say " good job, Mom " , when >the kids were fine and healthy. I'm not even afraid of them catching something >from the germs at the doctors office. But truthfully, I haven't taken them >since my dd was 9 months and she is now 2.5, haven't gotten around to it. Have to say I don't get to >practice too much, haven't had a cold or anything in the house for over a year! > >Lone > > >---------------------------
