Kirkman® has made a number of formulation changes during the last month. Here is a brief discussion of these changes.

In Kirkman’s Detox-Aid Advanced Formula, the N-acetyl cysteine has been removed and replaced with alpha-Ketoglutaric acid. The change was based on new scientific information which indicates that for certain individuals undergoing detoxification, N-acetyl cysteine can cause undesirable side effects. The alpha-Ketoglutaric acid gets the same job done without the side effects.

Many Kirkman® customers ask that we use the most natural ingredients possible and eliminate chemical-type ingredients when formulating our products. Kirkman® listens to our customers and, when possible, makes ingredient changes to satisfy these requests.

Stevia is a natural noncaloric herb. It is native to Paraguay, but now is also grown in Japan and China. It has been used worldwide for centuries as a flavor enhancer and an ingredient in drinks and teas.

Kirkman® has changed some of our formulations to include stevia in the spirit of using more natural ingredients. Here is a list of those products:

When making these changes, we have tried to keep taste, texture, color and other characteristics exactly the same as in the old formulations. In most cases no differences will be noticeable. Trial sizes will be available for the new formulations if customers wish to try them before ordering larger sizes.

Exciting new products are coming soon. An advanced adult multiple vitamin/mineral product is on the way which includes resveratrol and coenzyme Q10. Also, an advanced Bifido complex probiotic will be replacing our current Bifido complex in the near future. The new product will contain five strains of Bifidobacterium, 15 billion colony forming units in total, and will be legal on the SCD diet.

Can You Get the Vitamin D You Need From the Sun?

The skin is the largest organ in the human body. Vitamin D-3 − cholecalciferol − is produced in skin exposed to ultraviolet-B rays from sunlight. Midday sun is best. If you are fair skinned, then ten minutes of midday sun with much skin exposed and no sunblock is said to be sufficient. In the winter, it is hard to produce enough vitamin D from the sun in many latitudes. If

you cannot get a sufficient amount and quality of sun exposure per day due to factors such as season, location, or weather, you could consider supplementing with vitamin D-3 because D-3 is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D such as that which the body produces in response to sunlight.

New evidence supports a potential role for vitamin D in maintaining innate immunity and preventing diseases such

A test called a blood calcidiol level is available to determine vitamin D nutritional status.

Cool Down With ThisThe Versatile "Frozen Banana" Treat

If you're looking for fresh, naturally sweet treats that will take the edge off of summer's heat, we have a few ideas for you. You don’t have to sacrifice something sweet and cold if you are avoiding dairy and grain products. Here’s one chilled treat that will make any health conscious individual happy!Frozen Bananas on a StickYes, that’s right; I said frozen bananas on a stick. This treat is great alone or dipped in chocolate and rolled in nuts.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 bunch of ripe bananas

5-10 Popsicle sticks

Plastic cling wrap

Foil

1 bag of Paskesz Real Chocolate Chips (non-dairy)

1 bag of chopped nuts of your choice

1 roll of wax paperPeel bananas, then place a Popsicle stick in the banana like you would when making corny dogs. Wrap each individual banana in the clear cling wrap and then wrap in foil. Place the bananas in the freezer until frozen solid. The frozen bananas can be eaten just as you would a regular Popsicle, or you can give them a little kick!

Frozen Bananas on a Stick with a Kick: Chocolate-dipped BananasFor chocolate-dipped bananas, you will need a double boiler, or simply place one smaller boiling pan over a larger pan that has 3-4 inches of water in it. Place ½ of the bag of Paskesz chocolate chips in the top pan and heat the water below to a rolling boil. Be sure to stir the chocolate frequently until it reaches a smooth consistency. Place a 12-inch section of wax paper on the counter, and then sprinkle chopped nuts across the wax paper. The more nuts you cover the wax paper with, the more you will have on the banana. If you want fewer nuts, you can sprinkle them directly on the chocolate dipped banana. Now pull 2-3 frozen bananas from the freezer, unwrap them and begin covering each banana with the melted chocolate using

a tablespoon. Once covered, let each banana set for 1-2 minutes and then begin rolling in the nuts. Once this is done, you can begin to enjoy your cool treat, or wrap it once again to enjoy at a later time.
