Guest guest
Ruth, This sounds like eczema to me, and if that's the case, poor kid. When you say on four meals a day, do you mean solids? It's way too early to be feeding this baby solid food. Early introduction of solids, and cessation of breastfeeding, is clearly connected to food allergy and atopic disease (which includes eczema, asthma, and a number of other conditions). I hope it wasn't a doctor that advised her to wean the baby from the breast, as if that's the case, they have done this baby and mother a real disservice. When I was born in 1967, my mother breastfed me for two days, then put me on formula, then, because I had so many problems, they introduced solid food including peanut butter (!!!) at 3 weeks. I have extensive food allergies including a life-threatening peanut allergy, and have wrestled with atopic disease all my life, including eczema (which took until I was 22 to clear and still is not gone completely), asthma for which I take medication every day, allergies to many many things, and an eye disease called keratoconus. My daughter will be breastfed exclusively until she is at least 8 months old and we will introduce solids VERY slowly to try to avoid these problems that I had. She should see an allergist with this baby. Maybe someone could donate breastmilk for the little one.My dd who is bf had cradlecap for a while.A few weeks ago I rubbed her head with some California baby moisturing cream,a few drops of tea tree oil,and calendula cream.Rubbed it in.Covered with a cap for 15 minutes then washed it out. Then I combed her hair with a fine toothed comb in the bath and rinsed again. No problems since then. sara
Guest guest
My first child was breastfed exclusively for 8 1/2 months and had quite a bit of cradle cap. My second is the same at 5 months. I think it is hereditary, I have dry skin too. Ruthie Bear wrote: > > I would be grateful if anyone has information on whether or not a bottle fed > baby would suffer more from cradle cap. Guest guest
Dear , Thanks for your advice, I am SO worried about my friends baby. I think it was a health visitor that advised her. When I mentioned 4 meals a day I do mean solids! She gives him this much because she says he is a hungry baby and I think she likes him to sleep as much as possible! I am finding it very hard to keep my mouth shut around her, I have tried giving her advice but she seems to the health visitor is some kind of god-like figure! The cradle cap is quite smelly too, quite a sickly sweet smell. Can I ask something, are there any health vistors or health professionals on the list? If so, then she may listen to what they say!! I could show her the email and maybe that would make her realise that there is something wrong. I gave her some aromatherapy cream for his scapl and she used it on her own face! Meanwhile, the doc prescribed steroid cream for Toms scalp! I am banging my head against a brick wall here!! Another thing that I am concerned about is that Tom may have caught Rubella from my 2 year old. She has it now, he has the cough and runny nose part and she has the rash. As he is obviously quite unhealthy could it be serious for him if he does have it? Thanks so much! Ruth
