I'm not home schooling or in a HS Coop, but I'm interested in learning more. I was in a preschool Coop and it worked very well.

One HS group that I attended had members of all of the same religion, I was a little uncomfortable there ... it seemed to be for those that held only the same beliefs.

Now that I'm writing this ....I'm thinking that maybe I should start looking for Unitarian HS groups .... if anyone knows of one, pls. let me know.

Thanks,

Hi !

Great to have you join the topic! I think the idea of coop is good although I've never tried it. I'm trying to help a family find some options for one of their children having troubles in their public school system.

Jus a question; do you get homeschooling text books or materials that are designed for children who have learning disabilities? What type of materials do you use to aide a child with autism? Do you homeschool all 4 of your children? 9 years wow! Now you have a house full of teens! wow..how do you do it? You are an amazing Mom! Thats great!

Well, ttyl and we'll try to find some coops around. what area do you live in?

Yours, n

I'm homeschooling and have been for the last 9 years but I'm not in a COOP. I'd be interested in learning more and finding more homeschoolers. BTW I am newer to the group, so let me introduce myself. I'm and I'm a realtor and homeschooling mother of 4 wonderful (most of the time) children. Three girls 18, 17, & 12 and one boy 13. My 12 year old has autism...along with CP and ADHD. I've been married 20 years this year to a wonderful guy who supports all my decisions even if he doesn't always understand them right away lol.

Hi n,

I've tried alot of items over the years. Kumon (which can be bought at & Noble) is good for younger kids. I've bought curriculum from Alpha Omega but not everything always works. With my child because of the Cerebral Palsy and she's also been diagnosed with mild to moderate mental retardation it's been a guessing game of what works...something with too much color on the page is "too loud" for her and whatever I get has to hold her attention. Homeschooling works because I can do 15 minutes here and there throughout the whole day and that works best for her. All bookstores now have a homeschool section and that is what I recommend to go check out what is offered in the various bookstores around them. I've also made my own stuff...flash cards, labeling the house, things like that.

I started homeschooling out of necessity because of my 18 year old having issues and the school not helping and ended up homeschooling all of them. I love it but it can be frustrating also. I'm in the Cleveland area and being a realtor I can work from home mostly so that works great. Feel free to email with any questions.
