Guest guest
If it was I and there was an agreement that son is on the spectrum, I wowould get my dr to put it in writing.... PDD, Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder whatever, I w ould do th is as you might possibly have more resources available to you unless maybe you were never interested in Autism Scholarship Program, and your ins would cover more if it didn't say ASD. After in writing, I would Have your child evaluated by the district (and after his dr gives this diagnosis) in writing. Then see what services your district will offer. With a diagnosis on the spectrum you have the Autism Scholarship Program (after eval and iep) avvailable to your child. I don't think it is for all, but for many the ASP (Autism Scholarship Program) has what much of what these children need.... an individualized program that focuses on their issues. Ofcourse this is what I would do-you know your child best, and compare what the system offers to what you can get with providers on the ASP. My son is on the ASP, and the only regret that I have had was that I didn't utilize this program sooner. Our school system has a program for children on the spectrum that are very involved (many issues, severe) but nothing for social & programs that address his issues. It has been right for our child, not for all I guess though. I live in Geauga county and have providers mostly on the eastside, if youo want any more info, there is a group that is for parents (or th ose wanting to learn more) and providers (a new group) that has been f ormed, let me see if I can get a link, and post, for future reference for you? if want? Best to You! Sue > Hi everyone- > My name is Tara and I just joined this group. I took my son, he'll be 4 next month, to see a neurologist at Rainbow because I had concern over his behavior, speech, and anxiety. The neurologist was in agreement that my son could be on the spectrum as high functioning or pdd-nos. I was wondering if there are any services in Lake County to help with autism? I am currently working with a psychologist for further testing to find out where my son is on the spectrum, but trying to jump through the insurance hoops to have it covered. > My son has echolalia speech, problems with understanding and communicating language, some OCD, and alot of anxiety. Guest guest
Thanks for the information Sue... Currently, insurance is denying testing because they dont think autism is a mental illness, so I am going back to the psychologist with my son for him to evaluate to find some other underlying conditions that can be treated in relation to autism. I have heard of the autism scholarship program..I will look more into it. Also, if you can send me some resources on the East side, that would be great! Guest guest
he psychologist and psychiatrist should know how to bill it to insurance without a diagnosis of autism. Insurance often covers a relaed diagnosis that also fits such as ADHD or OCD or behavioral disorder. I know ours was denied before and I had them resubmit it and it worked. > > > > If it was I and there was an agreement that son is on the spectrum, I wowould get my dr to put it in writing.... Guest guest
Tara, I'm sorry it has taken so long for me to respond. I have an 11 year old son with Aspergers/PDD. We have had quite the journey, dealing with the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools but right now are in a really great place. 7 or 8 years ago, when my son was first diagnosed, I had a really hard time dealing with W-E but as the years have past, knowledge and experience have helped both myself AND the district reps work together. If you would like to contact me privately, please feel free to do so. I don't get to the group very often but I do check email several times a day. suepen@...
