Guest guest
We should be even more outraged to know that schools right here in Northeast Ohio have similar rooms in their buildings.... Luckily, attention is finally being paid by Washington DC: " Examining the Abusive and Deadly Use of Seclusion and Restraint in Schools " If you missed the very powerful hearings on Tuesday May 19, on restraint and seclusion that were held in Washington D.C., please go to: http://edlabor.house.gov/hearings/2009/05/examining-the-abusive-and-dead.shtml An interesting side note -- one of the folks who was supposed to testify at these hearings was V. Kealy, EdD, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services, Loudoun County Public Schools, Virginia. She had to bow out at the last minute because the GAO found out that the teacher who killed the child of one of the parents who testified was now teaching in the Loudoun County District. Not surprisingly, that teacher is now suspended. --Suzanne

Guest guest
They are all over the place. And, they are not exactly advertised. I would suggested going to visit schools in cities you are interested in and asking if they use " time-out " rooms. To see how widespread a problem this really is, you can visit COPAA's website and read their report on it. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) also has a separate report which was presented at the May 19th hearings. Good luck to you, --Suzanne > > As a parent with a child with autism this was an outrage.....How can schools treat our children like that instead of protecting them?? > Since my husband and I are looking into another school to send our son to what schools in the area are guilty of this if you don't mind me asking?? > > Jen > >
