Grandma’s Chicken Soup Recipe (from scratch) I use a 16 Quart pot so that it doesn’t run over. 5 packs of chicken bones Or 3 packs chicken pieces (make sit very fatty) People also use turkey necks, veal neck bones. Vegetables: Peel and slice these into lengthwise strips. The more you cut, the more flavorful the soup. Add the following into a cooking mesh back so you can lift and discard after cooking. In bag: 1 bunch celery 1 bunch parsley root WITH leaves (picture: http://www.playingwithfireandwater.com/.a/6a00e54fcc29da8834010536626847970c-450wi) 1 green pepper 1 large turnip (picture: http://sciencewins.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/turnip1.jpg) 1 large kohlrabi* (picture: http://www.diseaseproof.com/kohlrabi.jpg ) 1 large onion 3 large leek Loose in soup for eating with your soup: 1 bunch carrots, peel. Add into pot right away. 4 skinny zucchini, peel, add into pot the last 25 minutes Optional: 1 bunch dill, rinsed, into the food net bag. Also the Parsley root leaves. Fill the pot with 8 quarts of water, add the chicken/meat first, vegetables on top, and 3 heaping tablespoons of salt. Cook for 2 hours after boiling or total 3 hours. The carrots should be tender. Cool and separate into storage containers. Freezes for like, forever. *Kohlrabi Elaine writes: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/kohlrabi.htmI had to refresh my mind about kohlrabi. I have listed turnips in "not allowed" part of my book because of reports from people that they did not agree with them. Since kohlrobi is a cross between the cabbage family and the turnip family, it is one of those foods that should not be tried until well into the diet and doing well. Then it should be introduced slowly. The chemistry of turnips is a life study. They were not eliminated by Dr. Haas and when I have cooked the big yellow ones, they appear to be mainly water (and delicious) thereby making them an allowable vegetable. However, I have also had turnips that were different, more like a potato. In a nutshell, I don't have a black and white answer for you but since turnips are out, I would think kohlrabi is out as well. henny@... Hint of Sweet Pumpkin Pie Makes two pies.6 eggs, beaten1 cup homemade yogurt (*can be made without this but it does effect the taste somewhat; the yogurt adds richness)¼ cup honey4 cups precooked squash, pumpkin, or other winter squash. (For even better consistency and texture, drip any excess water out of your cooked squash by placing a coffee filter in a strainer and letting the squash sit in that for a while. I usually cook my squash the day before and let it drip overnight.)4 tsp cinnamon1 tsp nutmeg**1 tsp ground ginger *(optional, make sure no free-flowing agents are added if you use it)*6 tsp SCD legal vanillapinch of salt*Optional:* 1/2 cup palm oil shortening *(bakes and tastes fine without it; we like the added fat)*Puree ingredients together well and pour into greased pie pans. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30-40 minutes. You have to watch it. Cooking time will depend on how watery the squash you used were, whether or not you used yogurt, palm oil shortening, etc, and how many pies you are baking at one time. I have had this be done in 30 minutes, and I have had it take up to 50 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the pie. If it comes out clean, it is finished.K [pecanbread] list serve Carrot Pudding Separate 2 eggs. Put 2 yolks into a small pot on a medium heat. Add half a cup of honey Plus 1/4 cup of water. Whisk it all together over the heat, until the mixture gets frothy and thick. (At the same time, in another bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until they get fluffy.) Keep whisking until yolk, honey, water mixture starts to boil Add 1 cup of pureed carrots (carrots must be well cooked for intro - it should be 4 hours). Stir this over the heat until it boils again. Lower the heat. Add the fluffed up egg whites and gently fold them into the mixture with a wooden spoon. Stir gently for about three minutes. Meanwhile, dissolve one sachet of knox's gelatin in 1/3 cup of water. Take the mixture off the heat. stir in the dissolved gelatin Plus one teaspoon of legal vanilla essence. let it cool about ten minutes. Pour into 3-4 plastic party cups (displayed this way makes the desserts seem more 'special'). Put the party cups in the freidge until the pudding mixture sets.Later, in stage 1, you can substitute 1 ripe mashed banana instead of the carrot. Then in later stages, you can substitute a cup and a half of cashew cream, which makes it just like vanilla pudding. If you want it sweeter you could add some saccharine, but I'm not sure what stage you can introduce that. My kids like it just fine with the honey and vanilla. Jocelyn Moorhouse jocelynmoorhouse@...
