Guest guest
Currently I am taking both Singulair and Nasonex, along with loratadine(Claritin), without any problems. Everyone is different, and the side effects of all drugs need to be taken into consideration, as well as their reaction to other non-prescription medications/vitamins that you may be taking. > > > I¹ve never taken Singulair but my ENT has me on Nasonex which could be similar > > and it works really well. Guest guest
I occasionally take Sinex which is dangerous long term but for a quick short term relief it’s excellent if you’re blocked up. You’re right though, everyone is different and what may work well for one may not for another. I’ve been at my doctor and ENT for years to be densensitized but they don’t do it. Guest guest
My allergist here in Florida will do the desensitization, but not for everyone that requests it. Like everything else, it is not for everyone. You have to weigh the benefits against the risks and only a qualified doctor, with experience in desensitization, can tell you if you are a possible candidate. > > > > > I¹ve never taken Singulair but my ENT has me on Nasonex which > could be similar > > > and it works really well. Guest guest
I’m guessing neither of them are experienced with it and even my allergist didn’t want to do it either. Guest guest
Both my ENT and allergist told me that a lot of doctors do not like to treat patients with the triad because of so many variables/risks. Maybe you would feel better if you found a doctor with some past experience with triad cases. > > > > > > > I¹ve never taken Singulair but my ENT has me on Nasonex which > > could be similar > > > > and it works really well. Guest guest
Unfortunately easier said than done and as yet haven’t found one. I’ve phoned other doctors in the area to be told by the receptionist that they do treat Samters only to find that after having an appointment with them, they don’t do anything different. Guest guest
I’ve been told on two occasions the doctor does when in fact he doesn’t. I’ll be trying the city next in the hope I can find one there even though it’ll be inconvenient, long term if it works, it’ll be worth it. Guest guest
I think that if you find a doctor that has desensitization experience, you will at least have a doctor that has all of the possible tools/experience needed to find a treatment that suits your individual needs. That peace of mind alone should go a long way towards your comfort. > > > > > > > > > > > I¹ve never taken Singulair but my ENT has me on Nasonex which > > > > could be similar > > > > > > and it works really well. Guest guest
I’d have around 50% of my sense of taste if that and no sense of smell. If I go on prednisone I’ll get it all back. Sometimes I think it’s worth it just to get the sense of smell and taste fully back. Guest guest
Over the past 7 years only Betnesol drops and on an other occasion, a corticoid injection brought both taste and smell back but only for a couple of weeks. I moved country 8 months ago and have a complete new system to contend with and new doctors. They don't know what Betnesol drops are and they will not give me another corticoid injection because it's systemic (effects the whole body). Anyway I am down for my 2nd operation although they frighting me big time, any medical stuff. For the last month I have been off all dairy products, well except a little butter every few days. Also last two weeks went on the saliclyte diet but unfortunately I have had a chest infection or something similar for the last couple of weeks so dont know if it's been helping as I feel bad, worse anyway.Think I'll try the honey and vinegar thingy but I remember some vinegars I maybe allergic too.Cheers, and update soon. Guest guest
I would suspect sulphites. They are certainly present in wine vinegar. Maybe that is why they suggest Apple Cider Vinegar. Guest guest
For me absoloutly, sulphites are a problem like in some red wines, especially white wine, balsamic vinegars and sometimes if I dip my hand in the pickled onion jar too often. And off course dried apricots. I take it there's a strong like between sulphites and salcalytes? I mean having samters we should avoid both. I went to the allergist the other week but was only giving the usual 12 prick test thingy and the guy says there no point going any further. He said it was clear i was allergic to dust and mold fairly heavly. He also prepared some bottle of formula which I started, 1 drop, then 2 then 3 etc etc now on five and got two weeks left to go. What makes things extra difficult is I am from the UK now living in Argentina so I am combating the Spanish, culture and all the new medical tacts at the same time.Any answers on the sulphites - salcalytes question would be appreciated. Guest guest
That’s an interesting list. I must admit I eat a lot of the foods listed as high or very high in salicylates with no apparent problems yet aspirin triggers my asthma. Maybe I am sensitive to the form in aspirin and not the other forms or something like that? And at one point I did totally cut out my biggest contributor, coffee and sodas, for several months and I did not notice a change in my sinuses during that time. I wonder if it has to do with how or where these chemicals are absorbed in the digestive system? Guest guest
, I’m like you, I eat a lot from that list with no side affects at all. Aspirin is about the only thing at the moment that seems to trigger my asthma, aside from cigarette smoke. My ENT put me on a diet to eliminate all the higher foods/drinks from that list for nine weeks and it made no difference at all. Also last two weeks went on the saliclyte diet but unfortunately I have had a chest infection or something similar for the last couple of weeks so dont know if it's been helping as I feel bad, worse anyway. Think I'll try the honey and vinegar thingy but I remember some vinegars I maybe allergic too. Cheers, a nd update soon. RE: New member here, with my story. Guest guest
Hello all, I'm new to this group; I just wanted to share my experience with Samters. I'm 24 yrs. Old now, I can't really pinpoint when it actually began, but I knew as April 2005 I had Nasal polyps and asthma. So I saw an ENT who treated the polyps with prednisone and Nasacort. Which worked for a little while, but then symptoms reoccurred one day after I took an aspirin, this is when I realized I was allergic to aspirin. Went back to the ENT and did the same treatment. It worked for a month or so, but triad symptoms reappeared even when I avoided aspirin. So I went to see another ENT and he suggested surgery, and immediately following the surgery with aspirin desensitizing program right after. It's been a year since the desensitization procedures and the results have been good. As long as I take singulair and zyrtec (not everyone has to take zyrtec) along with my daily doses of Aspirin everyday, in order to keep my tolerance towards aspirin, symptoms haven't reappeared. Although I do want to mention I do feel more susceptible to heart burn, I think it maybe result of the apirin intake, so I have included Prilosec into my system. For those you interested in desensitizing program, I would recommend contacting the Scripps Institute, the doctor who desensitized me studied there, it is possible they could have a directory of Doctors who are authorized and experienced in desensitization. I'm from suburban New York, My doctor's name is Bosso he has been doing desensitization for many years now, he is well qualified and knowledgeable. It may not be for everyone and I understand your reservation of taking aspirin everyday, but I know exactly how frustrating this disease can be so I would suggest that everyone at least look into it. > > > > > > > > > I¹ve never taken Singulair but my ENT has me on Nasonex which > > > could be similar > > > > > and it works really well. Guest guest
Welcome to the the group. I have been diagnosed for some years now and recently I had to go on a Medro pack after dusting some furniture. While on the pack, I stopped in Wal-Mart to try something with guafenasine(sp) and the rest is history. I got my sense of smell back and it has been almost three week now. I have no asthma symptoms anymore and ny sinuses are clear. I blow my nose now out of habit and then it is all clear. My ears are back making wax and they squeak now when I blow my nose. I think it may be the decongestant that was in the Wal-Mart brand of Mucinex but it really worked. I have been on presciption meds for years. My copays are equal to the luxury car payment that I want and something for less than $5 makes me feel like a new me. What do you think? Re: New member here, with my story.
