We have been there too.

I would start by making a list of his favorite foods, Ice cream, yogurt, spaghetti sauce, etc. and seeing what it can be added to. Even Pizza. The problem is, getting the kid to eat the entire dose. Sometimes it helps to spread the dose throughout the day. 1/3 at breakfast, 1/3 at lunch, etc. Also, check and see if the medication can be heated in order to be baked into something. A roll of cookie dough or muffin mix can come in pretty handy.

For my kid (at least when she was little) the best foods to put the medication is were things like canned ravioli (not something that we usually serve in our house, but she loved it and it worked) and spaghetti sauce. I would mix the dose in a small portion, have her eat that and then give her 2nds.

I would also make smoothies, yogurt (soy yogurt works if no dairy) milk (soy, rice, etc), fruit and a few ice cubes .. it seems to me that cold foods are able to carry the medication w/o as much problem.

Of course, you have to make sure that the foods you mix it with don't interact w/ the dose, however if your doc says that orange juice is fine, tomato products should be fine too.

Our son is on Zinc, Omega 3 - orange (in liquid form), NAC, Multivitamin, and a probiotic in (powder form). He takes the probiotic and NAC fine in his food, but in getting the Zinc, Omega 3, & multivitamin is very difficult. We've crushed the vitamin put it in juice, put it in food and when we were giving him the Supernutes, tried giving him the tablet. To any of these, he hands whatever it was in back and says "no thanks." We now have the ASD powder, with the same result. The liquids aren't better. I think it maybe because of the smell. He's deficient in so many things, we have to get them in him. Our Dr. suggested giving them via syringe with orange juice. We will do that, but if anyone has other suggestions or ideas what else to mix with it, we would appreciate it.

http://www.marketamerica.com/tylord/product-10333/mightamins-spectrum-isotonix-multivitamin.htm

I have copied the url and hope that it works, I am not very good with computers. But the "Spectrum" line of supplements was just recently developed specifically for those diagnosed with a spectrum disorder. The stories of great results are starting to make their rounds. These supplements are in a good tasting, liquid (isotonic) form. If the link does not work, simply go to www.marketamerica.com/tylord ("tylord" stands for "thank you Lord") and put "spectrum" in the search field. There is a lot of information about each one of these four supplements available, even the label. There is a powerful antioxident (opc3), multivitamin, probiotics and digestive enzymes. (all developed to support neurological and digestive function)

You can call the number in the upper right hand corner of the web site if you have any questions.

God Bless,
