Guest guest
This was one of my son's biggest symptoms. He had almost no original speech when he was diagnosed less than two years ago and we are now almost fully recovered. DIETARY INTERVENTION! DO IT NOW! The three things that made the biggest difference for my two children wereThe GAPS diet http://www.gapsdiet.com/DAN biomedical testing and supplementation http://www.autism.com/dan/index.htmand Extensive in home ABA therapy We also did occupational, speech and physical therapy and they made a big difference too. My son now has all original speech and is well past mainstream. His biggest problem now is a small lip licking tick he's developed. From full blown ASD to chapped lips in less than two years. Your children can recover too! Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Joiel D. BauschatzGet back to school stuff for them and cashback for you. Try BingT now. Guest guest
Thanks for the information, I have heard of the diet but wondered if it would help my son or not. He has PDD-NOS, so, I didnt know if something like this helps those types of kids, or if it helps kids with classic autism become more high functioning. Also, my son is very limited in what he does eat now, I am afraid he wouldnt eat anything! He only eats yogurt, string cheese, fruit, pizza, spaghetti, and chicken nuggets (all no-no's on the diet). Someone told me that he wants to eat these things only cause its his body that is craving them. Thoughts? > > This helped our son as well! > Noah has been on a Gluten-Free/Casein-Free diet for over 10 years. > Also, no additives and mostly whole food. > Every child is different, but it has helped him tremendously. > > > In a message dated 8/4/2009 2:41:50 P.M. Guest guest
My son is high functioning and is on the diet. He has been on the diet for approximately 7 years. The diet has helped somewhat. He has less eczema and is less behavioral. We took him off the diet a few years ago (when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes) and took some data on behavior and physical symptoms. His self stimulatory behavior and anxiety increased while off the diet. We have since put him back on the diet; however, periodically he gets something with gluten or casein in it. I can always tell when he eats something bad because he becomes unbearable. My son also has echolalia -- we call it " scripting " . He usually scripts during his down time (usually Spongebob or Total Drama Island). The diet has helped cut down on the scripting, but it hasn't eliminated it. I have had some success with self-management programs. I've had him monitor his own scripting using a self-setting count-down vibration timer and reward system. At one point, the scripting was completely eliminated by using the self-management program. Unfortunately, the scripting has returned. I'm considering trying the self-management program again. Thanks. Debbie Z. > > I'm curious if anyone has had results with a child who is high-functioning and put them on a gfcf diet. It seems all I read are kids who have pretty severe autism and/or they have physical symptoms (leaky gut, constipation, etc.). My son is hardly ever sick - he's never missed a day of school (he's going into 4th grade), has a good appetite, etc. I would just like to hear some parents who had a child who was always higher functioning and/or never had any health issues, if a special diet helped with their child with other issues (e.g., anxiety, stress, stimming, etc.). > > If anyone has some input, I'd love to hear it. I'm thinking of finding a dan dr and getting my son tested just in case it may help, even in a small way; however, I really don't want to put him through a lot of testing, etc. and all the money (insurance doesn't cover) unless I really think it may help a little. > > thoughts? >
