Maureen Corcoran named Interim Medicaid Directorfrom ODJFS Director Lumpkin...

" It gives me great pleasure to announce Maureen Corcoran, a deputy

director in the Office of Ohio Health Plans (OHP), will serve as acting

interim State Medicaid Director after Corlett’s departure August

31.

She has been part of the Medicaid leadership team under Corlett

since April, 2008. The team has been responsible for, among other

things, successfully implementing a number of Medicaid expansions and

saving the state nearly $800 million - a record amount - through cost

containment efforts. She has provided leadership and guidance for health

plan policy and managed care, long-term care, eligibility, consumer

support, and home and community-based services waivers operated by OHP

and other Ohio state agencies. She and her staff also assist with the

Medicaid services administered by the Departments of Developmental

Disabilities, Aging, Mental Health, DADAS and Education.

Maureen holds bachelor’s and masters degrees in nursing and an MBA,

with a concentration in health finance. She has clinical and leadership

experience in nursing at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case

Western Reserve University.

She was the assistant deputy director for the Ohio Department of Mental

Health under Governor Voinovich, has worked in the departments of

MRDD and Health and was the executive assistant for human services for

Governor Celeste.

Prior to joining OHP, Maureen was with the Ohio Provider Resource

Association, a statewide organization that supports providers of

community-based services to individuals with mental retardation and

developmental disabilities.

She has been an incredible asset to OHP and I am grateful she has

agreed to take on this new role. I look forward to her continued good

counsel and leadership. "

Federal Update

From the e-newsletter of the Disability Policy Collaboration:U.S. CongressThe House and Senate are in recess through Labor Day.  Most Members of Congress will be back in their home districts meeting with constituents.  Health care reform is expected to be the dominant issue during the recess.

Health Care ReformThe House Energy and Commerce Committee will consider a series of amendments to the America's Affordable Health Choices Act (H.R. 3200), despite having voted the bill out of committee on July 31st.  In September, the Committee will review 55 to 60 pending health care reform amendments and compile the passed amendments into a bill to be merged with the health reform bills passed by the three Committees with jurisdiction over health reform: Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means and Education and Labor.

To clarify the misconceptions about the health care reform proposals, the House Education and Labor Committee has published " Health Care Checkup:  A line-by-line rebuttal to false information can be accessed at http://edlabor.house.gov/blog/2009/08/health-care-checkup-a-line-by-.shtml.
