Parent Support Group for Lorain, Erie, Huron Counties

attended a really nice support group for parents at the Educational Service Center of Lorain County last night. It is sponsored by the Region 2 State Support Team. This covers Lorain, Huron and Erie counties. The next meeting is scheduled for 9/17 but the time is still being worked out. I am posting the notes/follow up from the meeting below in case anyone from the region is interested in attending.Also, I started a Team for the Walk Now for Autism in October. Autism/Low Incidence/Assistive Technology ConsultantHi everyone… thank you to those that came

out last night for the Autism Parent Support Group meeting. It was a

great turn out despite the severe weather. Those that attended received

information about Region 2 SST services, OCALI, and the Autism Society of

America, as well as free Hidden Curriculum calendars.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 9/17. Based

upon the replies I received, the 4pm-6pm time slot does not work well for

some. So, please reply back to let me know which time you prefer:

4-6pm or 6-8pm. Please let me know by Friday 9/4 so I can plan

accordingly.

We had some great discussion last night. One idea was

to participate in the Walk Now for Autism as a team on 10/10/09. Several

thought this was a fantastic idea. The 1 mile walk takes place in the

morning at Voinovich Park. Please let me know very soon if you are

interested/willing to participate.

Other discussion last night centered around specific issues

parents were having, such as how to deal with rituals and self-calming strategies.

This is YOUR group. We can choose any topic we want to focus on for upcoming

meetings. Suggestions for future topics include Social Stories, The

Incredible 5 Point Scale, and Sensory Processing. Please let me know your

thoughts/preferences on this also by 9/4.

It was great meeting many of you last night and hope to be

able to meet others in the near future…
