Helping Hand Program

The National Autism Association - Northeast Ohio Chapter (NAA-NEO) is proud to present its Autism Benefit Music Festival at the beautiful Ledges Quarry Park in Garrettsville, Ohio on Sunday, September 6, Labor Day Weekend, featuring three-time Grammy winner Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys and nationally renowned roots act, Donna The

Buffalo.

Ralph Stanley is most well known for his performance on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. This event will also feature music from internationally recognized, Akron-born singer- songwriter Tim Easton, the Ji Band, and Scene Music Awards winners Jack Fords and Hillbilly Idol.

The event will be great fun for not only the bluegrass or roots crowd but also for families with kids who like dancable music and other outdoors activities. We will have a variety of children's programming including an inflatable bouncer, swimming, hiking, raffle and of course camping which will be available to all purchasing a ticket for our one-day festival.

Gates open at 9 a.m. for swimming, hiking, and children’s activities with the music starting at noon throughout the day and evening.

Tickets are $35 per person with children under 12 admitted free and can be purchased at www.nlqp.com and at the gate.

A special price of $15 per family will be given to families with a special needs child or adult.

Overnight camping and all activities are included in the price of admission.

About the beneficiaries

The Autism Benefit Music Festival at the Ledges Quarry Park is organized by the National Autism Association - Northeast Ohio Chapter (NAA-NEO), a 501 © 3 organization, which hopes to raise enough money to be able to fully fund the 2009 Helping Hand Program and award a grant to ALL local families raising a child or children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that requested financial assistance this year.

We are offerring a special discount to families with children with autism at a very low rate of $15/family. In order to accomodate this special population as much as possible, the activities that will be available at the park will be sensory friendly and geared toward kids on the autism spectrum (swimming, bouncing, hiking).

The Bands

About Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys

Now 82 years old, Stanley has been performing professionally since he and his older brother, , formed a band in their native southwestern Virginia in 1946. Between that date and 1966, when died, the Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys became one of the most celebrated bluegrass groups in the world, rivaling in popularity such titans as Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs.

While he has long been revered by enthusiasts of folk, bluegrass and country music, Stanley has lately been commanding the kind of honors due a musical original. In 2003, he shared with his friend Jim Lauderdale a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album. The year before that, he won Grammy’s for Best Country Male Vocalist Performance (beating out ny Cash, Willie , Tim McGraw, Lyle Lovett and ) and Album of the Year (for his part in the O Brother, Where Art Thou? collection).

In 2006 Dr. Stanley was presented the National Medal of Arts by National Endowment for the Arts and President W. Bush.

About Donna The Buffalo (DTB)

DTB has been performing for over 20 years and hails from Trumansburg, NY. DTB’s signature sound is a bedrock of traditional mountain music infused with elements of Cajun, rock, folk, reggae, and country. Donna The Buffalo represent one of the most respected 'brands' in the world of touring roots acts.

The band has put countless miles on their vintage biodiesel bus playing the country's most prestigious festivals and clubs. Their fervent fan base, nicknamed The Herd, follows the band with zeal and has created a unique and supportive community online and at DTB shows across the nation.

As an extension of this community and the band's own dedication to live roots music, Donna The Buffalo started its own annual event-- The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance -- in upstate NY which draws more than 10,000 people every year.

About Tim Easton

Like the bristly critter of its title, Tim Easton’s album Porcupine has some spikes in its hindquarters. And the Ohio-born, Tree, California-based singer-songwriter says the primarily aggressive style of the record was definitely by design.

“I wanted to make some noise again,†Easton explains. “I’d been making some sonically conservative albums out here in California, with a little less of that Midwestern bite that was part of the sound I had been making with my band when I was growing up.â€

Easton describes Porcupine – his fourth New West Records album, succeeding The Truth About Us (2001), Break Your Mother’s Heart (2003), and Ammunition (2006) -- as “not a ‘coming full circle’ kind of thing, but more the center point of a figure-8 where I am passing back through on my way to many other directions.†The collection reunites him with producers Brad and Robin Eaton, who played an important role in the early stages of his recording career.

About Jack Fords

The Jack Fords are the genuine article. Greasy American rock’n’roll that is delivered with a charismatic, t here is an raw, honest, genuine, spontaneous approach to their live show that has made their listeners believers. They are most at home and their best tearing through four-hour sets in smoky dirty clubs and bars, with creaky floors, spilled beer, broken glass, and fantastic crowds. This was the momentum behind the band being crowned by the Cleveland Free Times and their readers, less than a year of their debut live release, “Bent Outta Shapeâ€.

The Jack Fords were formed in 2005 when guitarist Bobby Latina met songwriter Brent Kirby at the now legendary Town Fryer, the same bar that would later host the live recording of their ambitious debut CD. Immediately, they furiously started connecting the dots of their own musical backgrounds and influences, and realized they had fallen upon something special and unique.

Ji Band

The Ji Band is a four member band that plays some of the best new music in the Midwest, with Jim's resonating vocals and jazz-infused lead guitar, Brett on bass, Steve "Nev" Scheff on keyboards and "Bagel" Golenberg on drums.The Ji Band's style is as varied as their influences; Ji "blends together blues, country, cajun, old rock 'n' roll, jazz and bluegrass into a musical Americana that is both fresh and timeless" in their everlasting sets. However, the band is best known for its freeform improvisation rock that was made famous by The Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers.Their lead man Jim has been playing music for most of his life and was the former frontman of the band Oroboros, orchestrating their 18-year odyssey on the road, playing at the 1994 H.O.R.D.E. Festival, the 1996 Further Festival, and opening for such acts as PHISH, The Kinks, Hot Tuna,
