I had the same problem you do. JM Sleep Apnea Hi all, I have been a silent member for awhile and just had a question. Does anyone have Obstructive Sleep Apnea in conjunction with samters? I had FESS surgery over two years ago, following a long time coming diagnoses of nasal polyps, asthma, and all that jazz. In fact I didn't realize how bad it was until I got to the Middle East (prior military) and my bunkmates would be laughing when I woke myself up snorting!!! I had no sense of smell, couldn't breath and thought it was life deal with it. As soon as I got back to the states, I demanded to see an ENT, and began the long rode to maybe not recovery, but some relief. Two years later I am back to snorting myself awake, and awaking so exhausted, why did I go to sleep in the first place. I am tired all day, and thinking maybe I now have obstructive sleep apnea. I do plan on exploring this with my doc. Just wonder how many others out there have it? Oh and one more, anyone else out there every get cysts in there sinus as well. I know I probably need surgery, again.... Any input would be great. Thanks! Tami (Utah)
Guest guest
Yes, I was told I had mild sleep apnea, but that it was not due to the " normal " causes (weak tongue, or whatever), but directly attributable to the congestion associated with Samters. I tried the CPAP machine for a while, and it did help, but it was a bit of a nuisance. The sleep doctor and I agreed that it was best to deal with the congestion. I have done this with irrigation, surgery, and some diet changes (reduced dairy, etc. as noted in earlier posts), and now I no longer have those dreams where I'm being held under water . . . PS, I don't know what the laws are in Utah, but be careful -- in my juridiction they take away drivers licences very quickly if the doctor determines that the apnea may cause sleep while driving. The doctor is obliged to report the condition to the appropriate authorities. -- Ken West Check the library . . . samters/links > From: " ttomes " <ttomes@...> > Reply-samters > Date: Wed, 05 Oct 2005 04:17:54 -0000 > samters > Subject: Sleep Apnea > > Hi all, I have been a silent member for awhile and just had a > question. Guest guest
Tami, I was diagnosed with OSA in August and started on a BiPAP machine (like the CPAP, but a bit more control of exhales). Instead of using a face mask, I use a piece called a "pillow" that puts air in the nostrils instead of covering my face. The dr also added a bit of oxygen, sine my O2 level was "borderline." There was quite a learning curve getting used to it at first, but now it's OK. I actually look forward to the refreshing air and good breathing at night! Ask your dr for a sleep study, and they will evaluate the level of your problem. Good luck! Guest guest
Asfy I read your recent post re; New York Times and sinusitis. There were several responses below this article, including one from Dr. Y. Park. I googled his name and found his site where he talks a lot about sleep apnea and sinusitis. I wonder how many people in this group have done a sleep study to evaluate whether they have sleep apnea or not.Has there been a survey in this group regarding this? Guest guest
Yes even when the polyps have my sinus severely blocked, I can still breathe easily with the machine on. Even when my asthma is flaring up, I can still breathe. Sometimes in the morning when I wake up and take off the mask, suddenly I realize that I am having difficult breathing. I hit my rescue dilator and my advair and I'll be on with my day.I personally have found that the full face masks just don't work for me. The ones that cover the nose don't work for me either because they don't seal and I hear the air rushing around all night. I personally prefer the one that uses "pillows". They are the little accordian pillows that make contact with the nostril. They seal and are silent once you have it on. And I get the best function out of this style. Others may like the nose mask, but I can never get it to work for me.Here is the one I use. I get the best seal on the nose with this one and it is quite comfortable. http://www.cpap.com/productpage/puritan-bennett-new-breeze-system-sleepgear-interface.htmlCrusherFrom: Cem Unaldi <cemunaldi@...>samters Sent: Monday, May 30, 2011 12:40 AMSubject: Re: sleep apnea Hi,I am a samters patient from Turkey.
