Hi

I've just started the clinical trial for nasal aspirin and I wondered about

other peoples experiences. I have been doing it for almost a week. The first

few days I thought my head may explode and now I feel as though I have flu,

achy, no energy.

Has anyone else felt like this?

Thank you

Hi

I was desensitized with Lysine Aspirin in December 2010 and have been on a maintenance dose equivalent to about 100mg daily ever since. In the first few days it was pretty nasty as the dose increased but once I got to the threshold amount it seemed to calm down. I administer the dose each evening and must say it sends me to sleep but then again just laying on the bed could be the reason. I hang my head over the edge while inserting the drops and then after a few minutes just lay on the bed so that it doesn't all drain out so easily.

I think it may have effected my energy levels but i'm not getting flu or ache symptoms. The aspirin seems to keep the gunge on the move and I have had a couple of ear infections as I think the nasty stuff tends to shift around all of the tubes with the liquid aspirin. All in all though I would say it has been life changing for me. I am also on singulair and flixonase each day plus a steriod puffer. This last few months has been my best time since the Samters struck me down about 4 years ago.

Judging by your email addres you are in UK same as me. My desense was organised through Dr Scadding at Royal Free in London. I have had one FESS polyp surgery and so far I only have very modest regrowth on one side so fingers crossed. I have given up alchohol some while ago as that was bad news and have to be careful with all sorts of things from toothpaste to the benzoates in fizzy drinks.

Keep going as I feel sure it will get better for you.

Better go as aspirin dose calls!

Best wishes

Mike

Hi Mike

Yes I am with Dr Scadding too after your advice on the clinical trials taking

place in the UK. Thank you very much for that.

The first night I slept for 12 hours! but not had very good sleep since. I was

told not to take it before going to bed as it is not good to lay down for a long

period as the aspirin will sit in the stomach. So I am taking mine at about 5pm.

I must say that today has been my best day so far(apart from having such

terrible inner ear itching which made me look like a dog with fleas!). So

feeling rather more positive than yesterday.

Have they said how long you will be taking it for? Is it forever?

Wow, giving up alcohol! Not sure I'm ready for that.

Thanks again for all the information you really have been a fantastic help.

Hi

I'm pleased my past posts have helped you manage this awful condition. Have you joined Dr Scadding’s research group and had the blood tests etc?

I try to do my aspirin drops early evening and then the flixonase later on. I commute into London for work so it is not easy time wise.

The inner ear itching is not something I have experienced but ear infections have been a problem since desense and have twice required antibiotics to clear. Fortunately I have not needed oral steriods since late last year so that is a positive. I do have the occasional sip of wine but beer and particularly cider are no no's. I was never much of a drinker so it was not a big issue but I do miss a glass of decent red wine with a meal. Grape juice is a poor replacement. I have found that Colgate gel toothpaste works well while all of the paste varieties brought on a mild asthma attack.

As far as I know it will be daily aspirin for ever now. Compared with the congestion and asthma of the past it is a small price to pay. I have to go back to Royal Free in Sept for my next check up.

By the way I have put a neoprene ring on the pipette to mark the daily dose and that makes it easier to fill correctly while lying on my back to do nostril 2. Just makes the process a bit easier to manage.

Best wishes

Mike
