Guest guest
This article implies that cayenne pepper essential oil coud be useful against asthma because it is a strong antioxidant, but I suppose there would be safer ways to achieve a good antioxidant supplementation.---------------J Med Food. 2011 Aug 29. [Epub ahead of print]Capsicum annuum L. Methanolic Extract Inhibits Ovalbumin-Induced Airway Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in a Mouse Model of Asthma.Jang HY, Kim SM, Yuk JE, Kwon OK, Oh SR, Lee HK, Jeong H, Ahn KS.Source1 Immune Modulator Research Center, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology , Cheongwon-gun, Chungbuk, Korea.AbstractAbstract The pepper fruit of Capsicum annuum L. is used as a food, spice, and topical medicine. Here, we investigated the effect of a methanolic C. annuum L. extract (CAE) in a mouse model of ovalbumin-induced allergic airway inflammation. Animals were treated with CAE by oral gavage before ovalbumin challenge. After ovalbumin challenge, airway responsiveness to methacholine, influx of inflammatory cells into the lung, cytokine levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and lung, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κ activity in lungs, and lung histopathology were assessed. Oral treatment with CAE significantly reduced the pathophysiological signs of allergic airway disease, including increased inflammatory cell recruitment to the airways, airway hyperresponsiveness, and increased levels of T-helper type 2 cytokines. Reactive oxygen species were also decreased in cells from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. In addition, we found that administration of CAE attenuated ovalbumin-induced increases in NF-κB activity in lungs. Collectively, these results suggest that CAE may be an effective oral treatment for allergic airway inflammation by virtue of its antioxidant activity. Guest guest
This is true. I routinely use straight ayenne oil (15 drops in a shot of water) to clear my sinus's as well as the Asthma. It helps open everything up and gets the blood flowing. It's really not as bad as you might think. Start with 5 drops twice a day and work up to 15 within a week. by then your palate will be able to handle the heat.I also highly recommend a product called Cold and Sinus Blaster by L.A. Naturals which is an essential oil blend containing cayenne, horseradish, garlic, and lots of other herbs and things.Hope that helps,Lane
Guest guest
Thank you for this info.BTW, "cold and sinus blaster" is a funny name ; it sounds like it was invented by someone who understood the state of mind of chronic sinusitis sufferers.>> This is true.
