I'm sure we may have had this conversation before, but what exactly is zyflo? I live in the UK and this drug hasn't been available to me.

I am currently suffering with my samters, as I had a fluey bug over Christmas and have been struggling whith my chest and sinuses since...and not only that, I have to down my aspirin dose from 600mg to 150mg in preparaton of an opertaion (not samters related)I need in 2 weeks time. I already feel like I'm on a low/dodgy aspirin dose so i'm putting off dropping the dose as I know it'll make all my symptoms worse. I would love to try anything that actually makes me feel better.

My history: 5+ years diagnosed with Samter's. 3 polyp removal surgeries about a year apart. Last one was Aug 2010. After seeing my ENT for my followup exam in Nov, he said that the polyps were already growing back in and that I had the worse sinuses that he's ever seen. I've tried aspirin desensitization, but the aspirin gave me too much stomach pain, so I had to quit. After reading this forum and ehealth forums, I decided to try Zyflo. I started taking them Dec 23rd and noticed improvement about 2 days later. It is now 2+ weeks later and I can breathe again!I've previously been on Singulair, Advair, Flovent, and Budesonide rinses. Only the Advair really helped, Singulair did nothing. Now I'm just on the Zyflo and once in a while I use the Flovent. I still have some stuffiness and a little mucus, but hardly any inflammation and my sense of smell has come back.I just wanted to share this because I'm going through what you guys are going

through and hope that Zyflo can help you as it has helped me. So if you haven't tried it yet, talk to your doctor about it (I had to learn about it on my own). Good luck everyone!

Zyflo (zilueton) prevents arachidonic acid (omega-6 fatty acid) from metabolizing into leukotrienes (the stuff that makes your allergies symptoms go crazy). It's different than Singulair in that it prevents the creation of leukotrienes whereas Singulair bonds to leukotrienes and prevents it from getting to the receptors. Zyflo has a patent on their formula and that might be why you can't get it in the UK. Their patent expired on Dec 10th last year though, so it might be available soon elsewhere. It's the only thing that's worked for me. Hope this helps. From: Bannister <beckyb256@...>samters Sent: Sun, January 9, 2011 2:24:51 AMSubject: Re: Zyflo works for me

Thanks for letting me know - it would be good if we could get this in the UK.

I'm surprised that you can't get it shipped to the UK. Have you tried that?

Zyflo is expensive...about $6 a pill. I have been fortunate in that doc gave me about three months supply free(samples). I am not sure it works and even though my prescription copay will be $40 a month I am about ready to give up on it.

I am not sure my Singulair worked that well too.

have you had surgery to get rid of your polyps? Because even though Zyflo prevents inflammation, any polyps you have right now will still cause the stuffiness and irritation. So it's best to have surgery first then start on the Zyflo or aspirin desens.
