Guest guest
I wonder those of us with polyps already, should they be removed first before we start the aspirin de-sensitization?? From: <kdcurlywurly@...>Subject: De sensitizationsamters Date: Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 12:38 AM I started my trial 3 months ago. I am on the liquid aspirin up the more trial. The first 2 weeks it was getting into my stomach and started to cause ulcers. However the next 4 weeks I felt great. My sinuses were unblocked and I could sleep. Unfortunately this hasn't lasted. For the past 5 weeks I am worse than ever. No sleep, completely blocked, headaches etc. I go back to the ent consultant next week as the trial is coming to an end. I will be surprised if my polyps have shrunk but will keep you posted. Sent from my Sony sson Xperia neo
Guest guest
I was given dose of prednisone and antibiotics to diminish polyps before desense. Guest guest
, I wish you luck with your desense. Most ENT's would recommend the desense occur within a few weeks following polyp removal so that you have a clear nose to begin with. Desense may not significantly change the size of polyps that have already formed, but it should keep them from getting worse, and help prevent new polyps from forming. I did two-day desense in a hospital setting two weeks after my second sinus surgery. It took about 3 weeks to feel better following desense. I was at a maintenance aspirin dose of 1350mg a day for the first 6 months, then dropped to 650, then to 350 at 9-months post desense. I pushed to have the dose dropped to alleviate stomach issues, and to help my stomach heal actually went 350 every other day for a few weeks. Please know that you can be desensitized, and stay desensitized with a dose as low as 120-150mg a day, HOWEVER, most doctors here don't consider that to be a therapeutic dose, so for some people, the lower doses may not be as effective at keeping the polyps at bay. I have now been desensitized for over 2 years and had only a few sinus issues and very infrequent asthma since. It has been very effective for me - aspirin and immuno-therapy shots for my other allergies are my only regular treatment currently. I use budesonide nasal rinses only as needed with illness or high allergy times. Guest guest
I have just completed 3 months of desens and as reported in a previous post have felt lousy. Just been to my ent in london and was told I have another infection. I have been taken off the trial:-( and am on steroids followed by 2 months of antibiotics. Looks as though I will need operation number 6 as my polyps have grown considerably during the desens. I am hoping they will start me again after the operation. Have the people who have been through desensitization found that they had a better response post op? Thank you. Guest guest
3 months of desensitization? Should have only taken like 2-3 days!!! I hope by stating 3 months you arent saying the ent had u on some low dose of aspirin.....u should have went from around 0 mg-1300 mg of aspirin over the course of just 2-3 days. And then maintained at around 1300 mgBianca On Aug 25, 2011, at 11:53 PM, <kdcurlywurly@...> wrote: I have just completed 3 months of desens and as reported in a previous post have felt lousy.
