Guest guest
Hi Wayne, The Omega6 to Omega3 ratio is indeed something important in the genesis of inflammation. Too much Omega-6 increases the production of arachidonic acid, which is the substrate of cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenases which help synthetize prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Direct arachidonic acid from the diet (ie from meat offals, eggs, low-grade farmed salmon) produces an even greater inflammation. I have no opinion regarding krill oil, but astaxanthin can always be taken separately if needed. > > I don't know how many members read his newsletter, but some of it is relevant to us.I read his recent letters concerning Russian Roulette,(regarding taking Tylenol compounds),asthma,omega-3'etc.,which gives me food for thought. He also sells products which must be taken at their own merit. > Just a few questions;Isn't it the ratio of omega -3 to omega -6 fatty acids that we must be concerned about? Ideally should the ratio be 1? Also why is there an R.D.A. of omega-3 fatty acids and no attention to how many mg 's of omega-6 fatty acids per day in the diet?( north american diet 20 or 30 to 1 omega-6 to omega-3). Also Dr. Mercola mentions Krill oil as being the best source of omega-3's as it also contains astaxanthin (a potent antioxidant also good fot the eyes)that helps the fatty acids from oxidizing and turning rancid.Apparently the gel caps allow oxidation.I realize that these fatty acids help constitute cell membranes ( it is the breakdown of these membranes that form the precursors for Leukotriene and prostaglandin formation). Also the composition of the cell m,embrane itselp controls how it behaves. > Any insight to the above would be appreciated.I have been taking a break from posting mainly because I missed feedback ie from Asfy especially and needed new ideas of my own. However I have been reading everyones post with interest.Sincerely Wayne >
