SOS and steroid bursts

Hello everyone, I had a polypectomy and ancillary sinus surgery in April last

year.

My SOS returned within about seven days and lasted until December when it went

away again.

I do find this very frustrating as my asthma and rhinitis are reasonably

well-controlled by using a steroid inhaler and Nasonex for my nose.I also take

daily loratadine.

However what I have found is that a short burst of prednisolone (40 mg per day

for five days) does bring my SOS back for about 4 weeks after completion of the

course. My GP has not as yet raised any issue with prescribing three times so far

this year.

I appreciate that prolonged use of steroids can be dangerous but I am wondering

what advice other posters may have received here. I suppose what I'm saying is

that if I were to take say six or seven such bursts of prednisolone each year

would this be safe and give my adrenal glands sufficient time to recover each

time?If not then how many such steroid bursts would be acceptable.

Any comments would be gratefully received,

Regards,
