I have a question and/or concern. A week ago, I was getting up at 4 in the morning coughing with asthma/chest tightness but was able to take a couple hits off my inhaler and go back to bed. In just a week's time, it has progressed to same symptoms by 1 am with little to no relief with the inhaler and no more sleep. I have figured out that my cough is coming from acid reflux which I am assuming is from the inflammation due to Samter's. Am I right? Has anybody had these symptoms too? With the exception of going to a bland mostly salicyate free diet, which I have done for the most part, what can I do to get relief? I am in process now of seeking second opinion on this disease and then hopefully polyp surgery followed by desens. However, that is still at least a month away. I need help in the meantime! Thanks, Rob.
Guest guest
For me at least, and we are all different, the inhaler became less and less effective at warding off the coughing. An asthma med like Advair or Symbicort, which includes a long acting beta agonist, was the only thing that could keep the coughing at bay, both through day and night (night being the most problematic for me). My doc also put me on nexium for acid reflux. Didn't do much for me.
Guest guest
Acid reflux can trigger my asthma so I keep a pretty close watch on it. Nexium didn't work for me but Prilosec seems to do well. Sometimes I have "silent reflux" and know to watch my asthma closely.Billie Ford msbfford@... ""Real power is the ability to pause between stimulus and response, and in that pause, choose." Guest guest
I suffer from acid reflux also when my sneezing starts up. First I get the acid reflux, then the sneezing starts and then coughing. I went on an acid reducer for a while and also slept with extra pillows. The symptoms have gone away since my desens. samters From: scottiesinboca@...Date: Mon, 29 Aug 2011 08:23:41 -0400Subject: Re: Coughing at night getting more frequent Rob: Get yourself on an acid reducer ASAP - - you can do serious damage to your esophagus and complicate your disease. Guest guest
There is a product on the market called Aloe Cure that I have been using that has helped tremendously with acid reflux (GERD). I have been ordering it from Amazon. I have gone from taking a Prevacid daily to only needing a pill once or twice a week. You should know that most proton pump inhibitor’s like Prevacid and Nexium cause bone density loss that can lead to Osteoporosis, among other things. Most on us have been on doses of Prednisone, which also leads to bone density loss. If at all possible, stay off of these drugs. I wish I had, since I now suffer from Osteopenia.
