Guest guest
Don't feel bad, you are not alone. I was on my pity pot for over a year ('09-'10). If I had even thought of a support group online for this....I would have been in need of daily encouragement several times a day!In the midst of my worst, I was having rage issues and anxiety. All of the prednisone and albuterol I was taking....my poor kids and hubby. I finally said to my doctor that I didn't know what was wrong with me ( I thought I was just 'grumpy' from lack of sleep). =0 This is my allergist/immunologist in Portland, and she got me off of albuterol (it really wasn't working for me anymore, just adding to my rage feelings) and put me on Xopenex (purified albuterol). She also got me off of prednisone and had me use a trick with my Flovent. In the past, when I got a sinus infection or cold, I automatically needed prednisone to help me get thru severe asthma symptoms. Now, if I need an extra boost, she has me increase my number of puffs of Flovent up to four puffs in the AM and 4 puffs in the PM. Within a few days, I got past the worst of my asthma problems and then I decreased the amount of puffs in a tapered fashion (like we do with prednisone). She said the flovent acts much like the steroid but without the side affects. I no longer suffered from the rage and anxiety. That has been huge life changer. I also cannot stress enough to folks to have their Vitamin D levels checked. Low levels of VitaminD can affect asthma AND energy levels. Again, I was thinking I was just tired from the asthma but when I started taking Vitamin D (my level was at 10) within days I could tell the difference. If I had told a family doctor how I was feeling, he would have certainly told me to take an antidepressant. I am not against them but, in my case, after two months of taking high doses of Vitamin D, I felt more like myself, energized, less depressed because I could actually do things.....and I am still in middle of process to getting well..... I now only take 2000 iu's which is one small gel pill. A big bottle of these at Costco is less than $10. Hang in there Darcie. =) From: Darcie <darciecoe@...>; To: <samters >; Subject: Re: wake up at 3 in the morning with asthma, severe cough Sent: Sat, Aug 27, 2011 7:20:34 PM Thanks Becky. I wish I could get this all started today... I live in Las Vegas and everything I do is going to take place out of state. It's been difficult but I need to stop feeling sorry for myself and tackle it head on. As the days go on and I get sicker and sicker, i am more convinced it's Sampter's. (I couldn't even eat cereal this morning without a reaction) Now, it's convincing others; family, friends, work and doctors that it is. So far, I am getting resistance from everywhere which is something I am sure everyone on this forum has experienced. However, I do look forward to the day when I can go back to some semblance of the quality of life I used to have and go on this forum and be as supportive and helpful to others as you all have been to me. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Today, I am going out to shop for low salicylate foods. Guest guest
I agree , prednisolone can really add to anxiety/rage issues, and I have to be so careful when taking it. For some reason we do seem to have very low levels of vit D. I haven't had my levels tested, but I have been taking a vit D3 supplement for a few months now and am feeling much better energy-wise and I think my immune system is stronger too. It's been a long time since I caught a cold (crossed fingers now!). Guest guest
Now I am waking up at 1 am..... Ugh. I have figured out that it is acid reflux causing the asthma and severe coughing. I am guessing this is due to the inflammation caused by the Samter's. I can tell you that I have never had acid reflux so I am guessing the Samters is triggering the reflux. Can anyone tell me if they are or have suffered similiar symptoms? I am at least a month away from getting second opinions on this disease and hopefully sinus surgery and asa desens following that. However, I need some sleep and relief from this awful coughing. I have already switched to a bland salicyate low diet... Any other help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone for the advice and well-wishes you have already sent my way. Rob. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Today, I am going out to shop for low salicylate foods. Guest guest
GERD can be a classic cause of sinusitis. In addition to purely inflammatory conditions, lower airways infections also create cough by reflux of inflammatory mucus.> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Today, I am going out to shop for low salicylate foods.
