Thanks, . My next test will be much more comprehensive and should pin down what's going on. Right now it's normal TSH, T3 and T7, but high T4. Pretty certain that fits the hyper definition unless more info changes that. Right now I enjoy a great SOS so don't want to change a thing and never liked fish much anyway. May also have been deficient in Selenium to convert T4 to T3. Sure hope the ear ringing disappears too. Soon.

Thanks again,

I also had tinnitus for about ten years until hyperthyroidism was diagnosed. Unfortunately by that time pappillary carcinoma had developed and I had to have my thyroid removed. So over the past six years I’ve done tons of thyroid research and “in a nutshell†what I’ve learned is that the thyroid produces to important hormones T-4 and T-3. The most significant is T-3 because this controls our metabolism, organs, bodily systems, etc.

T-4 is basically a storage hormone that the thyroid can convert to T-3 when needed to maintain the body. The important ingredient to support this conversion by the thyroid is Iodine. When not enough iodine is present in our body the thyroid will start to enlarge itself and even grow nodules in order to acquire more iodine, which results in hyperthyroidism. If your ( T-4 ) is high and your ( Free T-3 ) is low this would indicate iodine deficiency. Instead of reducing your iodine intake it may be more beneficial to take an iodine supplement.

The American Thyroid Association recommends that a full Thyroid Panel blood test be performed that includes the following – (TSH, T4, Free T4, Free T3, Iodine).

You may want to do some Internet searches on Hyperthyroidism and Iodine Deficiency, and also check the American Thyroid Associations web site. In my opinion Thyroid disorders do have a similarity to Samters, in that Doctors seem to have minimal, outdated or incorrect knowledge of the problem

By the way after my thyroid was removed the tinnitus stopped. (Humor)

I may be a bit different, but I recently added a thyroid panel to my annual physical. Prior to this my blood tests came in near perfect and earlier allergy tests showed no allergies, except minor food. But for 10 years I've had tinnitus, anosmia, rhinitis and some increased difficulty breathing with excertion. My thyroid panel showed high Thyroxine (T4), typical for hyperthyroidism. Don't show many outward signs, but came across a mouse study where one sentence stood out:

.. "In vivo and in vitro lipid peroxidation significantly increased in hyperthyroidism and did not change in the hypothyroid state."

Needless to say, until I take the test again (next month) and sit down with my doctor, I've really upped the antioxidants I take and also maintain a fairly simple low iodine diet to stop feeding my thyroid so much. At this point I don't believe that an improving and good SOS and no rhinitis after 6 weeks is a coincidence. Lipid peroxidation has been connected, at some level, to these inflamations.

Anyway, I stopped taking Omega3 as well as anything else from the ocean, especially sea vegetables. Changed to Kosher salt, changed my multivitamin to eliminate iodine minerals, watch out for red dye #4, eliminated most dairy, cough drops, etc. Not going crazy, but reducing it from where I was. Take more vitamin C,E, Quercitin, ALA and interested in the antioxidant effect of Olive Oil directly.

Don't know yet if I'm reducing T4 on my own or what will happen when it is reduced by any other approach. Just an interesting observation for now. Think Predisone and aspirin can also reduce the T4, but recall reading that aspirin can re-set it to lower levels so it doesn't go up again after you discontinue.

Time will tell. Guess we're all different.
