Is it true that one will never regain SOS after several surgeries? I was

speaking with someone tonight that has had 6 surgeries. (the 1st person I've met

in person that has Samter's) and he was told by his ENT that he will never

regain his sense of smell. I've had only 1 surgery and he told me it was too

late in most cases.????? Depressing

My SOS has come back on it own many times, without

Prednisone. I wish I could figure out the link when it shows up. I have had 6

surgeries. It doesn’t stay long but it is always welcome !! LOL

Many doctors THINK that they know what is going to happen with each of their

patients, long in advance of their recovery. Having raced motorcycles, with the

expected crashes and injuries, I have heard many many times about what my future

holds for me. In almost all cases, the doctor's were wrong.

I have had three polyp surgeries, and have fully regained my sense of smell. I

have not be aspirin desensitized and DO NOT get regular sinus infections that

some have.

As I have said before, we are all different and WILL experience different

experiences with different medicines and different recoveries after surgery.

I hope that you do recover your sense of smell. It was nice to get it back after

several years without it.

The best statement that I've heard regarding a doctor's diagnosis is

" Doctors are like Economists - If you give five of them the same historical

information and then ask each of them the same question - you'll get five

different answers. "

. . . none of which will necessarily be correct or useful,

(if the subject is Samters).
