Guest guest
i just got an Rx for pulmicort respules to try in my irrigator. it has been 4 days now and I think it is really helping because i got a whiff of smell, sort of. i knew that their was fruity smell in the air but i could not actually smell it but to me that is a good sign, i have been clearer also. has anyone else tried this because i think it is my new favorite thing. on another note, i love saunas and hot yoga and find it gives me alot of relief whereas i have a hard time breathing when in a steam room. it seems there is no clear concensus on that. laura
Guest guest
I have been using the respules for over a year now. No doubt, they helped me. However, it is not a panacea. There are times I can smell, even if not 100%, but my nose and my breathing are incomparably better than before.--TiborCarl Ondry <ondry@...> wrote: Apparently Pulmicort can give mixed results (so what is new?). Guest guest
Is this something you take daily? Can you take it if you don't have the asthma component of this Triad? Guest guest
the pulmicort respules are technically for inhalation use in a nebulizer to help with asthma. however, some ents have been rxing it to drop into your nasal irrigation water and flush it through the sinuses, which is how we have been using it. > Apparently Pulmicort can give mixed results (so what is new?). Guest guest
Lori.... the respules I use are 0.5 mg. I mix one respule with 1 tsp of saline/water mix. Once in a while I have a hard time and it goes down my throat. You have to find just the right position for your head in each of the positions you hold for 1 min. I started this in middle of May. I am 100 % better and believe me... I was miserable.I hope it works for you.Apparantly this is not FDA approved yet acoording to my dr. in Boston. It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Guest guest
I'm looking up the dosages for asthma, and what I seem to find is 1-2 milligrams twice a day is the standard dose of Pulmicort respules for adults. However, my doctor didn't seem to find this dosage form in his computer, so I'm a big confused ... It would make a whole lot of sense as to why this isn't working for me. My dose is .5 milligrams in 2mL of fluid once a day. Hey I'm also wondering how you all are dealing with NOT getting this stuff to go down your throat!! This is a big problem for me. I have been trying to rinse my mouth well but it gets down into my GI tract and I'm worried about getting thrush way down somewhere. Of course the problem may be non-existent if I stop using the product. Unless I get a higher dosage which works, it seems likely I won't be using this anymore as it's doing nothing. Guest guest
My grandfather used to have lassoo-snaring of polyps at least once a year in the doctor's office so he could breathe by the nose again. It was very effective, then they always came back after a while, sometimes a few months, sometimes a year, because he took no medication, not even nasal spray. If the polyp is accessible by q-tips, it would be far away enough from the optical nerve, so a direct attack may be attempted : - Have you tried soaking a q-tips with pumlmicort and applying it for long minutes all over the polyp, two or three times a day, for at least a week ? - Same advice with dexmethasone, which may work better than budesonide. - Same advice with sodium cromoglycate (Lomudal), a leukotriene inhibitor and mast-cell stabilizer, which comes in liquid form (ampules). Not in place of corticoids but in addition to them, because the mecanism of action is not at the same level and both are complementary. - Same advice with an anti-histamine like azelastine, in addition to corticoids and Lomudal, but not at the same time of day. Would also be complementary. Plus the usual-but-tough-to-follow-it-all advice : - severely cut down on high-glycemic-index carbs, and why not even try replacing all carbs by fruits and vegetables for a week, - avoid direct arachidonic acid (excess eggs, fat meat, farmed fish), - avoid fats with too much Omega 6s, - avoid potential allergens, chemicals, food additives, pollutants, molds, viruses. And on pregnancy and allergy : Mediterranean diet in pregnancy is protective for wheeze and atopy in childhood L Chatzi1, M Torrent2, I Romieu3, R -Esteban4, C Ferrer4, J Vioque5, M Kogevinas1,4, J Sunyer4,6 1 Department of Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece 2 Area de Salud de Menorca, IB-SALUT, Menorca, Spain 3 National Institute of Public Health, Cuernavaca, Mexico 4 Centra de Recerca en Epidemiologia Ambiental (CREAL), Institut Municipal d'Investigacio Medica, Barcelona, Spain 5 Dpto Salud Publica, Campus San , Universidad , Elche-Alicante, Spain 6 Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain Correspondence to: Dr L Chatzi, Department of Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete, PO Box 2208, Heraklion, 71003, Crete, Greece; lchatzi{at}med.uoc.gr Introduction: Dietary intake of specific nutrients or food groups during pregnancy could play a role in the risk of asthma and atopy in offspring, but specific dietary patterns have not been implicated. The authors evaluated the impact of maternal (during pregnancy) and child adherence to a Mediterranean diet on asthma and atopy in childhood. Methods: Women presenting for antenatal care at all general practices in Menorca, a Mediterranean island in Spain, over a 12 month period starting in mid-1997 were recruited. 460 children were included in the analysis after 6.5 years of follow-up. Maternal dietary intake during pregnancy and children's dietary intake at age 6.5 years were assessed by food frequency questionnaires, and adherence to a Mediterranean diet was evaluated by a priori defined scores. During follow-up, parents completed questionnaires on the child's respiratory and allergic symptoms. Children underwent skin prick tests with six common aeroallergens. Results: The prevalence rates of persistent wheeze, atopic wheeze and atopy at age 6.5 years were 13.2%, 5.8% and 17.0%, respectively. One-third (36.1%) of mothers had a low quality Mediterranean diet during pregnancy according to the Mediterranean Diet Score, while the rest had a high score. A high Mediterranean Diet Score during pregnancy (at two levels, using " low " score as the reference) was found to be protective for persistent wheeze (OR 0.22; 95% CI 0.08 to 0.58), atopic wheeze (OR 0.30; 95% CI 0.10 to 0.90) and atopy (OR 0.55; 95% CI 0.31 to 0.97) at age 6.5 years after adjusting for potential confounders. Childhood adherence to a Mediterranean diet was negatively associated with persistent wheeze and atopy although the associations did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: These results support a protective effect of a high level of adherence to a Mediterranean diet during pregnancy against asthma-like symptoms and atopy in childhood. Guest guest
It doesn't really work for me either. Only when it's really bad and I use baby shampoo too. But irrigating doesn't do any wonders for me. I don't know if it's because my sinuses are so small or what. It just seems to make me feel more clogged up and adds pressure. The baby shampoo addition seems to work if I'm in really bad condition. But I can't do it daily. From: truelori <lori@...>Subject: Re: pulmicort respulessamters Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 3:56 PM The Pulmicort honestly doesn't seem to be doing a darned thing for me. I don't know why you need to mix it with water since it's already in a 2 mL solution, and that's already more than enough fluid for me.Lori>> Lori.... the respules I use are 0.5 mg.
