I have some hearing loss in my right ear. I have occasional ringing in my ears. I have pain in my ears at times. The doctor will look and say "your ears look good when" but I am assumed it is from my sinuses.

Yes recent hearing loss....had ears "candles" yesterday and feel some relief.> > > > > > > How common is it for people to experience ear problems with samters? Aspirin Desentization, zyflo CR, and saline/steroid with nasal nebulizer have brought my asthma and polyps under control but now I am having problems with my ears. After taking zyflo I was able to get off my monthly taper of prednisone but my ears were getting full of fluid and it was getting hard to hear. Antibiotics were ineffective and I was right back to monthly steroids. I have had tubes placed in my ear and have been fine. However now I am getting fluid draining from my ears. My ENT suctioned my ears said they were full of thick gelatinous fluid and he put me on steroid/antibiotic ear drops. I am afraid this may be my new monthly ritual. Has anyone lost there hearning with samters? Does anyone have any suggestions as to possible treatments? I was thinking of asking my ENT about antiallergy eye drops to put in my ear but, I have not heard of any research or indications to do this. Other places on the web I have read that some antihistimines are ototoxic (refering to oral doses).>

I just had my ears cleaned out in the doctor's office a few months ago. He tried to tell me that was probably why I was not hearing as well as I should. Oh well. That was my primary care doctor. My doctor at the Asthma and Allergy Center here understands much better. The A & A Center doctor actually had tried to make arrangements for me to have the aspirin desense done but I would have to go to the Cleveland Clinic or Pittsburgh or Columbus Ohio. Of course it is done out patient and I was told when I talked to the nurse at the Cleveland Clinic that it could take from 3 days to a full week. They can't know for sure. They explained the whole procedure to me which did not sound horrible. I just can't financially afford to do it right now because I live just far enough away I can't be going back and forth to any of these places. I also can't afford to go and stay for 3 days to a week. It was funny though because the nurse said they would start me out on inhaled Toradol and after I reacted to that they would start with the aspirin.

I found I had to be persistent with my doctor regarding my ear problems - he'd look and say my ear was okay when I knew I had an infection. Different doctors would say I simply had a lot of earwax but when they flushed that they'd see what I was talking about and put me on antibiotics. My hearing came back when I had a T-tube inserted into the ear - I was deaf in that ear by then due to the gunk piled up behind the drum. Ringing in my ears has only come back in the last couple of weeks (a year after the tube was put in), but I think that is because I have had three colds in two months and my sinuses are still infected from the last. Doctors who do not understand samters generally have no idea - they'll treat me for my asthma, or my sinus infection, or my ear problems but they don't realise all three go together. Luckily I see a sympathetic and experienced immunologist every six months who is keeping track of the polyps for me (the ENT specialist only ever wants to talk about operations!)cheersBeverley

I meant to say assuming. I should proofread. I also have problems with occasional dizziness which is not very pleasant. It can get really bad and then just go away.

  • 2 weeks later...

, I just use a small ear irrigator usually they have empty ones at the pharmacy fill half with white vinegar and half with extra virgin olive oil. Then I shake it, and put 4 or 5 drops in ear 2 or 3 times daily.Sent from my iPhoneOn Oct 11, 2011, at 1:31 PM, "reebcrow" <rebecca.the.crow@...> wrote:

To "samsmom6602" -- you said you use olive oil and distilled vinegar solution to clear ear problems. Could you elaborate on this a little more? My ears are SO itchy and I'm getting more ear infections of late. Can the oil/vinegar stuff be used in an ear that has a tube in it?

thanks!
