Guest guest
Hello everyone, I just wanted to get an idea if anyone has tried homeopathic healing for their samters condition? I actually made an appointment with a homeopathic healer that came highly recommended about 1-1/2 years ago at which time the wait to get in was 1-1/2 years. In the mean time I went though aspirin desensitization and my symptoms greatly improved but I am still on a list of medications and never regained my sense of smell. So a couple months ago I got the call confirming my appointment that I had made 1-1/2 years prior. I figured it was worth a shot and I am now 2 months into my homeopathic treatment. To be honest I can't explain the theory behind homeopathic healing, but I can say that I have not taken my normal nasal spray (a generic nasonex) in about 2 weeks and I can't believe how clear my sinuses are. I also think foods are starting to have more flavor for me. It also seems as though my asthma symptoms are less severe. Along with the " potions " I am taking for my " maisms " I am also taking Vitamin D3, Magnesium, Glutamin, Vit C, and a composite fish oil. Thats a quick overview of my experience. Does anyone else have any experience with a homeopathic treatment? Thanks, Pete
Guest guest
I've tried homeopathy with a respected homeopath. No clear results for me, but then I was always doing other stuff at the same time. I'm taking pretty much the same supplements you are plus some others. I'm curious, what remedies have you been using? I know it is different for each person, depending on many factors, but I wonder if there is something in particular that you used that might be helpful -- particularly for sense of smell. Guest guest
I went to a classical homeopathic doctor for about a year decades ago, purportedly one of the best in Australia. He gave up in frustration too, which really concerned me as I'd heard great things about the approach. He recommended surgery, something I'd been trying to avoid having already had two. He said that I had a 'block' which he couldn't shift and he wasn't referring to the polyps. :-( I am skeptical about homeopathy if it doesn't work unless lifestyle changes such as improving diet, reducing stress, ensuring a clean environment, etc are made. Doing all those things will reduce most of our symptoms anyway and we should naturally feel a lot better. I concentrated on those things back when I was seeking alternative therapies and although I felt generally better nothing would stop an exacerbation of symptoms when exposed to infectious viral or bacterial infections. And I still needed surgery on my polyps and I couldn't stop taking my corticosteroid puffer. :-( I think that homeopathy works for some people and not others - this disease is too variable in the way it effects people. Give it a go if you can afford it and keep your fingers crossed. Beverley
Guest guest
I've been suffering for 4 years. Last April I had my first surgery. 6 months later my led nostril was completley clogged again with polops.. In three months I was on two long runs of prednisone, with harsh antibiotics. As soon as I was off them a week later I would feel completly horrible again. I saw my ENT on Jan. 5th, she told me surgery wasn't worth it because my polyps grew back so fast, she told me that I may have to be on permanent prednisone. That scared the crap out of me! The very next day I started a new diet which I'm still on. I cut out dairy, sugar, salt, wheat, and most startches and flours. I've been trying to eat more fish, and also more omega 3 rich foods and healthy fats. Also taking fish oil supplements. Two weeks later my nose cleared up, the polyps that I could see in my left nostrill were shrinking! My asthma has been much better, havnt had to use my albuteral in a while now, and I was using it everyday! This week starting Monday my smells been coming back, I haven't smelled in four years! I'm shocked how much this diet has been helping, I didn't expect it to help so much. I'm really interested to see someone else with this try it. Hope this helps. Guest guest
That is wonderful news..we should all clean up our diets and be strict about it. I'm reading a new book " Clean " by Dr. Junger.I am going to try his 3 week challenge to see if there is a difference...I would love to be able to smell again..it's been a long time. > > I've been suffering for 4 years. Guest guest
I too had similar results. In all I've had 5 surgeries to clear the polyps in my nose. Each time they came back, usually about 6 mos later. One year, 6 years ago, it was so bad I called my ENT doctor but he said he no availability until 3 months later. I had to seek another option. At this point my nose was constantly dripping and uncontrollable squeaks were coming out of my nose every time I talked. Being a manager of a studio, this was quite annoying. Someone recommended a naturopath doctor. I went and she recommended a very strict diet - no dairy, sugar, caffeine, salt, processed food, wheat, flour, etc etc. At first it was difficult because these were all my favourite foods. After a month all my symptons cleared up and I haven't been for surgery since - this was about 6 years ago. Mind you, I only stayed on that diet for that one month. Recently the polyps have inflammed full swing and a recent MRI showed chronic growth, sinus problems etc. etc. Now I have two choices, back on the restrictive diet or back to surgery. Hmmmm..... it is quite a lifestyle change to give up all those foods and it takes quite a bit of specialty shopping and creativity in the kitchen. I will let you know my decision when I make it... so far just suffering through each day not committing to either. By the way I never got my smell back. I haven't smelled for about 20 years.. the only time it comes back is when I take prednisone (which totally f* & !!d up my bones - stay away if possible!!). > > Jordan Can you be more specific on what you are doing ,would love to try > > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Barbara <danielbarbara@...> > samters > Sent: Thu, February 10, 2011 9:24:47 AM > Subject: Re: Re: Homeopathic Option > > > I cut out dairy & sugar for some time, I try to cut out wheat & starches and > maybe I can smell again, can't smell since 5 years, stay away from prednisone & > antibotics. > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Jordan <jordanlburnett@...> > " samters " <samters > > Sent: Thu, February 10, 2011 1:40:36 AM > Subject: Re: Homeopathic Option > > > I've been suffering for 4 years. Guest guest
I'm looking forward to hearing how this helps you. I'm sick of the corticosteroids my doctor has me on. I've gained weight, which he says isn't from the drugs, but as an athlete, I'm pretty in tune with my body. I Googled " Advair and weight gain " and was floored by how many people were posting on forums about this. I too started making a move toward cutting out quite a few things from my diet. I am incorporating some Chinese medicine approaches as well (I work in an acupuncture clinic). One of the approaches in relation to inflammatory diseases (like asthma, polyps and allergic reactions) is the role of leukotrienes, which are primarily found in animal products. So in addition to cutting out refined sugars, processed foods, most flours, etc, etc, I'll be cutting out meat too, which is fine by me. According to Chinese medicine, eating grains in their sprouted form is supposed to be more helpful for people dealing with inflammatory problems. Your sprouted breads should be fine as long as they don't sneak any wheat gluten in or anything. I have found a few cookbooks that I really like. They don't necessarily cut everything out that I want to, but they are pretty adaptable. Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Cookbook has some good recipes and Carb Conscious Vegetarian is great (it would be easy to add meat if you want to). Good luck! I look forward to progress reports from everyone on this thread. Cheers, Mollie PS- Does anyone get their asthma fired up when they eat aspartame? I had some sugar free gum earlier and I got kinda wheezy. I notice it if I have a diet soda too. Just curious. > > Ya Barbara, I can try. Cut out sugar, salt, dairy, wheat. Not eating any potatoes or breads. However I think that I would be able to eat sprouted bread without negetive effects. I also cut out alcohol. Basically I eat lots of fresh fruits and vegies. Also alot of unsalted raw nuts. Natural sugars from fruits or dried fruits are fine. I do eat a bit of brown rice, so I can make stir fry. I'm not eating very much red meat either, just once in awhile. You definantly want to stay away from saturated fats. Just look on lables for sodium and sugar content. I've been eating quite a bit of avacodo also. Also no soda. I pretty much just drink tea and water, but I havnt given up coffee!lol. Also I take two to four 360mg fish oil supplements a day, and also around a 1000mg of vitamin c. Also I'm trying to eat as much fish as possible because of the omega 3's. If you need more info try looking up the 'pericone' diet. This diet is supposed to be anti-inflammatory. I > think alot of the problems caused from this disease is due to inflamation, from the asthma to the polyp growth. I felt so inflamed in my sinuses before, I could just feel them pounding all the time, I don't have that now. I'm not gonna lie, this diet is hard to be on but it does get easier the longer ur on it. And u start to figure out things u can have, I think it's gonna be easier the longer I'm on it, and also think I'll be able to cheat here and there without bad affects. It might take a while to notice results so don't give up to early. I told my allergist what I was doing diet wise and he told me he'd never had somone stay on it long enough to see how it works. I'm anxious to go back to him. I hope that this is helpfull. > > Sent from my iPhon >

Guest guest
Hi Mollie, yes, my daughter who has Samters gets asthma, coughing from Aspartame. Most toothpastes really set her off and she has to use her inhaler. > > > > Ya Barbara, I can try. Cut out sugar, salt, dairy, wheat. Not eating any potatoes or breads.
