My opinion only. Have you already seen your primary care doc for an MRI, nerve

conduction test, etc and have this diagnosis? If so, your doc should be able to

give your a referral for PT, pain management, etc.

I had nerve pain in my right light and right lower back pain. I was told I have

Lower Lumbar SS, also DDD and a slipped vertebre.

I had physical therapy and steriod injections along with taking Gabapentin for

the nerve pain. The next step for me was to see a neurosurgeon. They will not

even talk with you unless your MRI is less than one year old and you have tried

all other conservative methods of pain relief.

I had a lumbar fusion L4,5 and SI thru a doc at Barrow Neurosurgical Phoenix -

St ph's Hospital.

Hope this help

Either an orthopedic surgeon who specializes is spines or a neurosurgeon who specializes in spines is the type of doctor that you need to see.Who diagnosed you with spinal stenosis? When did you have your last MRI?Have you had any treatment for your spinal stenosis?I live on the East coast in New England, so I'm not familiar with spine surgeons in Arizona, but you might want to google something like Orthopedic surgeons for and then add the name of some of your sports teams in your state. That's a good place to start looking for a spine surgeon. If they are good enough to treat the professional athlete, they would be good

surgeons.Personally, I only use sports medicine orthopedic surgeons for my spine. My experience in getting other opinions with other spine surgeons found that neurosurgeons that specialize in the spine where far to eager to do surgery, more major surgery than was needed and their approach didn't make a lot of logical sense.I have had surgery for both spinal stenosis and a disc.FranFrom: rfayhallock <rfayhallock@...>Spinal Stenosis Treatment Sent: Wednesday, August 17,

Fran,

Thanks for sharing your insight about sports medicine professionals. That is my conclusion as well after diagnosis with spinal stenosis in 2004. There is no instant fix and I know one day I will need to have surgery, but the specialists help me maximize my strength and comfort as well as cope with activities of daily living.

Thanks for sharing,

Columbus, OH
