Guest guest
yes that is the cause of the pain and numbness that you are feeling.the exercise and walking are contributing to the compression of nerves in your spinal column that the stenosis is causing, the narrowing of the areas that the nerves pass through in your vertebrae. When you are sitting or bending forward, you are opening up the spaces in the vertebrae and providing more room for the nerves, therefore removing some of the compression on the nerves.Do you find yourself not standing up straight when you are standing? You might not even realize that you are doing this, but it is the bodies natural response to what is going on in your spine to help relieve some of the pain and numbness.do you find that when you sit down, you are arching your spine and bending forward, especially when sitting at a table? this is also a natural reaction of the body to help relieve the pain. What type of treatments have had to ease your pain? what type of doctors have you seen, what have they suggested?FranFrom: rfayhallock <rfayhallock@...>Subject: I have spinal stenosis. Guest guest
>My primary care doctor is my Veterans Administration doctor. She has not recommended that I see any specialist. She recommended Advil etc for the pain so I haven't been treated by any doctor. I have been leaning on my elbows on the table with my palms under my jaw to support my head up for years and I never knew why. I have had 3 epidural shots a couple years ago which took the terrible pain away. I walk like you described. With the warm weather here I am walking in the morning............... > Thank You, azbob > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > numb while and after I do light exercise or walking? Guest guest
your primary doctor is not qualified to provide the care and proper treatment that you need. She is not a spine specialist and her telling you to take advil for the pain is just further proof that she is not qualified to provide the care that you need.Advil will not provide any pain relief from nerve compression, nor will narcotic pain meds either. Only the various nerve pain meds, neurontin, lyrica will do that. You need to be seen by a spine specialist, either an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines only. They are the doctors that are specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of spine problems, and they don't always require surgery. What is needed is proper treatment and the longer the nerves are compressed and not properly treated, the more the risk of permanent nerve damage to you and the pain you are experiencing will be a permanent part of your life. You need have your primary doctor refer you to a spine specialist ASAP, and if she won't do so, then you need to find a new primary doctor.FranFrom: rfayhallock <rfayhallock@...>Subject: Re: I have spinal stenosis.
