Ever since my last respiratory infection I have been coughing up ,on a daily

basis,a clear not colored mucous that is highly viscous almost like a mucous

plug.I did notice my asthma was acting up and use of ventolin was required (ie

in addition to symbicort and singulair). This has been going on for at least

acouple of months now.I also had a general anesthetic (ie 6-7 Hrs ,for a huge

incisional hernia, surgery )about 4 weeks ago. After the surgery I also developed

a cough from a cold while reccuperating.I was wondering if anyone has had any

insight into this.Sincerely Wayne

Hi Wayne,Thanks for these articles.- lung mucus : strangely enough, I have had the same mucus problem on and off since a severe bronchitis last year ; it looks like the bronchitis weakened the lower airways, which are now more susceptible ; maybe some viruses are responsible for that, or I may have developed some kind of biofilm ; sustained expectoration (i.e. 30 times/hour 2/day) helps a lot when this happens ; hot antiseptic herbal tea (e.g. thyme/oregano/lavender combination) helps ;- manuka honey : may be used in irrigation/nebulization, but for that I would recommend a sterile (irradiated) version sold by some producers in order to avoid adding new germs ; also, it would best be used in combination with an antibiotic - though not in the same rinse or nebulization cup ; it dissolves well in lukewarm saline ; from some articles I have read, it works well against staph ; like most antiseptics, it is unfortunately far better at preventing biofilms than cleaning established ones ; according to recent articles, a very high concentration is needed to achieve a good antibiotic effect and avoid germ resistance - e.g. in the range of 10%-25% by weight or volume, which makes the solution a bit sticky ; I believe a new antibiotic honey is on the way (Revamil);- Samter's is definitely bad in neurological terms ; infections, especially persistent biofilms, harm nerves a lot through germ toxin/inflammation production ; eosinophils release neurotoxins among other things (EDN=eosinophil-derived-neurotoxin) ; leukotrienes are neurotoxic too ; getting rid of any biofilm is a must ; also, excess medication (steroids, anti-leukotrienes, mast-cell inhibitors) can have neurological effects and dose-lowering should be attempted.>> Ever since my last respiratory infection I have been coughing up ,on a daily basis,a clear not colored mucous that is highly viscous almost like a mucous plug.I did notice my asthma was acting up and use of ventolin was required (ie in addition to symbicort and singulair). This has been going on for at least acouple of months now.I also had a general anesthetic (ie 6-7 Hrs ,for a huge incisional hernia, surgery )about 4 weeks ago. After the surgery I also developed a cough from a cold while reccuperating.I was wondering if anyone has had any insight into this.Sincerely Wayne>

Thanks asfy,That explains why the honey may not have worked for me -- I definitely haven't been using it at that concentration. Looking forward to eventually trying Revamil.I've found strengthening my underlying immune system has helped a great deal in not getting infections and not getting so ill when they do appear. But I think I'm one of the luckier ones.Much appreciation to you both for all the information -- and while it's terrible to know others suffer so much, it's also reassuring to know that one isn't just some kind of wimp conjuring up the horrors of the disease.JoanOn Apr 13, 2011, at 2:39 PM, asfy wrote:

Hi Wayne-

This is interesting, I am 2 weeks post surgery /anesthesia and have had similiar issues. A lot of clear mucus in lungs and sinuses. Honestly, my theory was that my lungs and body were so relaxed being under that the crap that never loosens actually did, lol, but it has only been 2 weeks and it is gross. I woke up from surgery very tight chested and weezy and had to use my inhaler several times. I think it is something from the drugs in the anesthesia oddly enough. Hope you feel better......
