Guest guest
Yes! I was the same way. Desensitized in Sept. Not one infection since, and I usually got 4-6/yr. To those who have done aspirin desens Has it helped with frequent sinus infections? I was told that it would. I get about 3 to 4 a year and would like to stop the cycle of antibiotics etc. Breathing is ok due to many polyp surgeries, I am pretty clear now. But I get frequent sinus and ear infections. Thanks for your input!
Guest guest
I was desensitized almost 2 years ago, and have had 3 sinus infections in that time which cleared up easily with a single course of antibiotics. Before surgery/desense, I had 4-6 per year which generally required 2-3 rounds of antibiotics to clear. So mine have lessened by maybe 70% and the severity is much less as well. Jennie > > Yes! Guest guest
I was desensed in 2002. I rarely get sinus infections - maybe one every couple of years. I always get a little color (yellow) in my morning mucus. Infections for me have thick, opaque greenish mucus. > > To those who have done aspirin desens > > > > > > > > Has it helped with frequent sinus infections? I was told that it would. Guest guest
Have you seen an Internist about your frequent infections? I have not been desensitized and I can't even remember the last time I had a sinus infection. A complete blood work-up will pinpoint any deficiencies in your system that may be the root cause of your infections. Aspirin is not an antibiotic so I cannot see where being desensitized would have any affect on your infections. A low base level of Vitamin D however could indicate a weakened immune system, which may very well cause you to get frequent infections, colds, etc. Go to see a doctor that can order and interpret a complete blood workup and see what the results are. It may be something very simple to correct with a change in diet or with a few vitamins. > > Has it helped with frequent sinus infections? I was told that it would. Guest guest
I got infections post-desense until I upped my Vit D (and fish oil) and started rinsing my Nielmed bottle with hydrogen peroxide after every use. Since then things have been pretty good and if I start to get an infection it goes away on its own. Doctors have different opinions on appropriate Vit D levels -- the person I saw thinks one should aim for the higher end of the spectrum. On Feb 14, 2011, at 8:07 AM, rpg4444 wrote: Have you seen an Internist about your frequent infections? Guest guest
That is exactly right...doctors do have differing opinions which is why a blood work-up is important. With Winter and with the increased use of sun block, people are not spending as much time out in the sun which helps the body produce Vitamin D naturally. In my own case, several years ago, my Vitamin D level had gotten so low that I was put on prescription Vitamin D pills of 50,000 units, three times a week, to bring it up to normal levels. Until you know precisely what your exact level is, over the counter doses of vitamin D may not be providing what your own body needs. I believe that I had to also take B-1 to aid the absorption of Vitamin D at that time as well. Basically every person is different and what is " normal " for the masses may not be normal for someone else. I guess by having Samter's, none of us are really " normal' anyway. :-) > > > > > > Has it helped with frequent sinus infections? I was told that it would. Guest guest
I have a blood workup twice a year. Nothing special shows up. Take Vitamin D 4000/day, eat no dairy and irrigate daily. Apparently I was told that aspirin desens eliminates the reactionary element in the system, and the immune system " resets " itself. > > > > Has it helped with frequent sinus infections? Guest guest
If your sinuses are inflammed, you'll probably have congestion, which leads to bad drainage, which leads to mucus buildup, which leads to bacteria growth AKA infection. If you're de-sensed you'll probably be less inflammed, which could lead to less infections.
