Guest guest
I was most interested in this as I also have arthritis and can't take anti inflammatories. I did a bit of looking around on the net and found this and would like your opinion on the findings here. http://copd.about.com/od/emphysema/a/glucocorticoids.htm samters From: louis7680@...Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2011 17:58:46 +0000Subject: New Anti-inflammatory drugs? Guest guest
I'm sorry ,but could you rephrase your question. Have you tried to make your diet more anti-inflammatory,by consuming more Omega 3 fatty acids and less omega 6 fatty acids? See " Omega-3 Fatty Acids Shown to prevent or Slow Progression of Osteoarthritis " ,Science Daily(oct17,2011) Also achieving ,or being at a healthy weight might also help to decrease inflammation, and put less wear and tear on the weight bearing joints. Corticosteroids and osteopenia or osteoporosis is a real concern. Does any of this help?Wayne > > > I was most interested in this as I also have arthritis and can't take anti inflammatories. Guest guest
I consume the maximum permitted of Omega 3, am definitely not overweight, 5'6 and only 60 kg so well within my required range. Because of aspirin in Voltaren/Deep Heat creams I use Rapigel instead which scarily enough is a gel designed for horses (not that I'm a nag of course haha) and find that gives some relief. My GP has said I'm doing all the correct things and my diet is excellent. Guess it's the luck of the draw. samters From: louis7680@...Date: Thu, 27 Oct 2011 01:55:24 +0000Subject: Re: New Anti-inflammatory drugs? Guest guest
My wife has osteoarthritis, fairly severe involving knees ,wrists, hands especially(it runs in her family). She takes Osteo Bi-Flex which has Boswellia serrata extract in it something called AKBA (see following article). Also some articles talk about uric acid increasing the likelihood of Severe Osteoarthritis (see Science Daily). Light exercise may prevent osteoarthritis and high-impact activity is associated with cartilage degeneration and a higher risk for osteoarthritis.(also in Science Daily) New anti -inflammatory drugs might take 10 years or more before marketed. Guest guest
My point is that combining asa with omega-3 fatty acids might increase an anti-inflammatory response by increasing resolvins and protectins. The real questions is how much omega-3 combined with how much asa produces the best result?I've heard of omega-3's in the range of 3-6 grams per day(ie EPA and DHA combined)but as this and asa both thin the blood what would be optimal when both are taken together?--_In samters , " Wayne " <louis7680@...> wrote: > > > My wife has osteoarthritis, fairly severe involving knees ,wrists, hands > especially(it runs in her family). She takes Osteo Bi-Flex which has > Boswellia serrata extract in it something called AKBA (see following > article). > > Also some articles talk about uric acid increasing the likelihood of > Severe Osteoarthritis (see Science Daily). > > Light exercise may prevent osteoarthritis and high-impact activity is > associated with cartilage degeneration and a higher risk for > osteoarthritis.(also in Science Daily) > > New anti -inflammatory drugs might take 10 years or more before > marketed.
