Guest guest
Welcome back! I had the same experience. I got bored with the food... my saving grace this time has been the " Eating For Life " cookbook. Fabulous food. Some people have said that it strays a bit from basic BFL principles but, while that's true, it's still healthy and very close to the 40/40/20. It's good food that " normal " (translation: non-BFLers) people like. I successfully completed a 12-week cycle (my first!) with the aid of EFL. I had never before made it past the 4th week (and believe me, I tried, and tried, and tried again. I think I probably started at least 10 separate times!). You're on your way, starting out well with planning. Enjoy! Lori@... wrote: Or should I say Returnee? I followed Body for Life several years ago, got into great shape, lost 40 pounds and then quit. Guest guest
Welcome to the group! This group is definately a great place for answers advice and support!! It never ceases to amaze me that the "professionals" at the school will be so unwilling to consider the possibility of any disorder/disability that might require services. IMO they should be ready willing and able to test any child who is struggling in school acadmically or behaviorally (with parent support of course!). I know it is a money issue, but I truly do not believe that many kids (if any) willfully misbehave or suffer academically without underlying issues. UGH! When will your daughter be able to start evals? What services is she receiving now? My name is , BTW and I live in NY with dh, Jay, and our 3 sons the oldest of whom is 7 and dx'd HFA. This group is full of information, so if you have a question - ask away. If you don't get an answer, ask again. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes with such a busy group things get lost in the shuffle.kalmekrzzy <kalmekrzzy@...> wrote: Hello,I'm a newbie to the group. .... Guest guest
Hello, I'm a newbie to the group. I am a mom to a 9 year old little girl. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD back in 2002. This was after many many fights with the school she was at. She had a very rocky 1st grade year and I had repeatedly requested that she be signs before. My daughter's new doctor mentioned it the very first time she seen her. This is why I had brought it up at the IEP meeting. So now that we got the ball rolling and testing will start, I'm looking for advice, answers and support. Toni Welcome to the group Toni. I have a 12 year old son, As. He was originally diagnosed at 9 with OCD, anxiety, depression (he had a very bad year). He was diagnosed at almost 10 with Asperger’s as well. There are no schools in our area to fit his needs, so he is now Home Schooled. He is very busy with activities and an avid reader. Ask any questions, someone should have a thought…..Gail

I barely made it pas tthe frustrations of the 4 weeks and now here it comes again. I don't know why it is so hard to hang on around these times and I am very happy with results so far. I lost a bunch of inches and 1 clothes size but my weight is only donw about 6 lbs. Guest guest
Welcome, . >I am not sure how to go about losing weight. The first thing you do is check with your doctor to see if he/she has any special advice or restrictions for you. If not, then the next thing you might want to do is look over and his Foodmover program or Weight Watchers. These programs will tell you how many calories/Points you should be eating each day based on your current weight. On these plans you continue to eat all your favorite foods, just in limited portions. Our Links page (url at the bottom of every message) can send you to their web sites and to sites of other food plans. Our Files page also has information on various food plans, including a copy of the Overeaters Anonymous Dignity of Choice brochure that outlines a few different food plans you might want to use. Just about any food plan will help you lose weight but only as long as you stay on it! So chose wisely - it's best to chose one that's closest to your usual foods as possible. Remember that you'll be eating this way for the rest of your life. Or, as says, for as long as you want the weight to stay off. Keep a food and exercise journal for a few weeks to see your strengths and weaknesses. Our Links page can show you a blank page one site has up as an example that you can print out and use. This will help you see not only what you eat but why and how it affects you. You may see that you have a sweet snack every afternoon at 3pm because you're bored, but that it makes you feel sleepier after you eat it. Maybe you'll find you'll feel better if you just went for a little walk at that time, or that a glass of water takes away the boredom feeling and you feel a bit peppier. Use this info to help you plan your meals & snacks for the next week. >the excerise part I understad and I am wanting to start walking everynight evan if I start out .05 miles.. It's best to start small like that, other wise you might injure yourself and then be reluctant to try again. You don't even need the pedometer, but it's a nice gadget to have to chart your progress. Just start off by walking about 5 minutes away from home, turn around and walk back, then do some stretching for a total of 15 minute workout, and do this about 5 days a week. The next week walk 10 minutes away and turn around. Remember to stretch afterwards. Each week increase the distance walked. Maybe drive yourself to a local park and start your walk from your car for a change of scenery. After you increase your time out to about a half hour, start walking a bit faster after the first 5 minutes and slow back down for your last 5 minutes. Add some toning/weights to your routine a few times a week. Your library should have a load of books on the subject ( Cruise is one author to look for, Miriam is another), and there are loads of videos out there ( has a number of toning ones). The more you do, the more fit you'll become, the more your body will *want* to do. >do you eat 6 small meals a day...do the portion thing... Your food journal will help guide you in making your daily menus out according to whatever food plan you chose. Everyone is different - some women here chose a reduced calorie plan like the Foodmover or WW, others chose Atkins, others chose very low fat whole foods vegan plans. Chose a plan that works for YOU. What do you think *you* can follow for the rest of *your* life? >how about diet pills like relacore and cortislim or slim fast...do those help... Only the people who are manufacturing them. Toss them in the toilet and flush them! >I will be anixous to find out what has worked for you The most successful " losers " have followed a lower calories food plan (Foodmover/ Weight Watchers) that changes based on their current weight, and did their exercise, increasing their exercise to at least an hour a day as their fitness level increased. Nobody started out doing an hour of aerobics a day - they all had to work up to that level by taking that first step. Did you see the movie, Finding Nemo, where Dory sings her little " Just keep swimming, keep swimming " song? Just change the words a little bit to " Just keep sweating, keep sweating... " and you'll find the secret to successful weight loss, no matter how much you need to lose. Sue in NJ

Guest guest
Hi Tina, I am Donna 47 years old & from Louisiana. I am Married To Cliff will be 2 years on Nov 21... You will find great support here and I like you have been and then gained it back I went from 390 to 325 well then I just for some reason got off track and could not get back on till I weight and it said I was back to 375.Now I am back down to 351.. I said this had to stop so I cat eat anything but Chicken, pork, eggs some cheeses ect....... and veggies but I am not aloud anything white or fruit because it turns to sugar on me and I am Diabetic. Welcome to the group and I added you to MSN . Take Care and God Bless. Keep up the good work.. In Jesus Name, Donna -- Newbie Here Hello everyone My name is Tina and Im 27 years old from West Virginia. Im not married and I don’t have any kids but I do have a wonderful boyfriend named Danny that I have been with for 1 year and 3 months. But anyway let me get to why I joined the group. I have always been overweight. But I didn’t realize (or want to realize) how far I had let it gone until December 4th 2002. I went to the doctor that day and I weighed in at 322 pounds (My all time highest). I cried all the way home. I said to myself something has to be done. So I started doing Weight Watchers and went from 322 to 316 in about 2 months. So I basically just started watching what I ate and then I went down to 306 in another 2 months. So to me I wasn’t losing weight fast enough so I started just counting calories and went from 306 to 280 pounds I was doing great and feeling even greater. Well that was about it. I don’t know what happened after that I just stopped trying and I gained all the weight I had lost back and then another pound on top of that. So July 25th 2005 I weighed in and I was at my new all time highest 323.1. Well I have been back on track since July 25th and I have lost 10 pounds so far. But I cant do it alone. I need all the support I can get so that’s why I joined this group. I have been going to the gym everyday and walking on the treadmill and riding the bike and I have added the cross trainer in there also. So told I did the cross trainer for 19 minutes, the Bike for 10 minutes and the treadmill for 35 mintues. Hope to hear from everyone soon. Tina P.S. Guest guest
Hi Tina, My story is pretty close to yours - April 2003 - my all time high of 330 - I lost 65 pounds that year. Felt great, moved great etc. Then coasted, by last month I was back up to 320. Well enough is enough. I hurt to much to exercise, my breathing sucks. For the 1st time I can't get worked up for my foodmover (forgive me ) so I've been counting calories this week. I have no idea what I weigh now, the doctor wanted me to take daily shots that would curb my appetite. Hunger isn't my problem - I drink to much cola. your exercising is great! Guest guest
Does the pocket around it hurt? Mine does from time to time if I do something strenuous, but it's just muscle pain. I could see walking causing a soreness, like muscle ache around the site if it made it bounce or jiggle. Bridget > > Hello all, > I have an ICD. I have had it ever since I was 21. Now I am 25. Guest guest
Keep it simple. Keep it simple. Keep it simple. When the info starts to overwhelm you go to the basics. Stick with them. Protein: size of your palm Starchy veggies/Carbs: Size of your fist Green leafy veggies: Dump some on your plate Workout: Upper body, cardio, lower body, cardio, upper body, cardio, rest. Free day: On rest day--do what you want, eat what you want. Once that becomes second nature then you can start processing all the minutae that comes along with lifting and bodybuilding. deb > > Hello all, > > I'm on week 2 of the challenge and have really enjoyed reading the group emails. Guest guest
i am so sorry to hear about your situation. your right about one thing, this is a very great group to be involved with. they are amazing people who really care. and they are wonderful about giving advice and helping in every way possible. i am also pretty new here. my fiance has this disease and we dont know much about the degree of it. my ex-husband was an alcoholic and a drug user so i understand completely about where your brother, and you for that matter, are at. we divorced because of his problems and only after he lost his daughter to me did he turn himself around. that is wonderful that your brother has been sober for 3 months. although my ex didnt have this disease i did learn that you cant change someone or help someone unless they want it for themselves. i think what you are doing by researching this disease and preparing a good meal for your brother is wonderful and very supporting. just dont get discouraged if it isnt accepted real well from your brother. it will be eventually. he needs someone to be there and do these things even if he doesnt realize it yet. im not much help on giving advice about the disease itself because like i said, im new to this also, but there are so many amazing people here that will be shooting you all kinds of info that will be of great help. feel free to whine, nag, complain, question, all you want. this group can handle it. lord knows ive done enough of it and they have been wonderful to me. so welcome here. i hope you like it as much as i do.Sandy <prettyintherightlight@...> wrote: I joined this group because my brother was diagnosed with Hep C. Last appointment with the doctor showed the disease was worse than they had thought originally, and my brother is looking at a treatment. I have read all the pamphlets he has brought home. He still doesn't like talking about it. My brother was a needle user, and apparently shared only one needle..that happened to be the one. He has been clean and sober now for 3 months, doing well with AA and NA, but dragging his heels on the HCV issues. I understand that denial is quite normal, and about all I can do at this point is encourage him in some way by preparing nutritious meals for him..He has been living with me for the past three months..of course drugs have taken their toll on him financially and physically. He has no job, and at this point facing treatment, that is probably not a big problem for us. He has lost his children because of drugs..now he has been getting his life in order and with his disease, his ex wife seems to want to show no mercy. He isn't making waves to get his children, because he has been working so hard on his sobriety. Issues involving court and so forth would probably not be a good thing for him at this time in his recovery. His children would definately be a healing thing for him, and of course I do believe his children need their dad in their lives, especially now that he is doing so well. We are waiting on the results of his last blood work..and I know I have rambled on here, but I am kinda scared..I appreciate this group, seems like a caring group of people with a common battle. If you have any helpful tips for me I would appreciate them, or do I just back off and wait till my brother makes the right decision, whatever that is? Thanks so much for your time. Sandy Autos. Guest guest
Hi, I'm a recent newbie here myself & new to finding out I have Hep as well, Just found out a week ago. I've yet to have further blood work done to determind where I'm at But that's coming this Friday. Like a few outhers, I most likely caught this threw the use of needle drugs or my tattoo work, both were done back in the 80's. I know, I'm rambbling on here but figured a lil back ground would be better then just saying, My girlfriend is also offering me lots of help, teaching me how to prepare better meals for my self, she's bought me all sorts of natural path products, Done all sorts of research on the net for us both, She's even got me drinkin Green tea...blaaahhh...lol But it shows she really cares about me & it makes me feel better knowing that I do have someone close that does love me & does care this much. It helps keep my outlook better & my spirits up. She attends my appointment with pen & paper & always asks questions, something I never think to do...I don't know what I'd do without her, she's really an amazing lil woman & I love her to death... & besides, I have no one else close that cares. My family does, but they live in T.O., So I'm alone here & without her, I don't think I'd be doing anywhere near as much to fight this as I am. I know that sometimes family sees other family memebers as meddling or just trying to look good to the rest of the family, or just doing it because they feel they have to, But I really hope your Brother sees your help the same way I see my woman's help as being real & wanting to help because you love him. There's a Real comfort in knowing you have someone so willing to be so helpfull & caring. Just my 2 cents worth, Thanks for letting me be a part of this great lil group, You may not see alot of posts from me, because I'm just getting into this but who knows, she says I have the gift of gab....lol Thank you for being there for me sweetie, I Love you... Guest guest
Sandy First off,, WELCOME hon,, its really nice when we see a family member come in and learn about this disease they themselves do not have.. In all reality, your brother will have to maintain sobriety for at least 6 months before they will let him treat his hep. The use of any alcohol is contraindicated for treatment and will make it ineffective as well.. Does he know what genotype he is and has he had a biopsy to see how much damage he does or does not have? Those are 2 very important answers he needs before he can make the decision to treat or not.. Im glad that he is not making a lot of waves in regards to his kids,, the stress of fighting back and forth with the ex is NOT good for the liver,, so right now, he really needs to work on just keeping himself sober and getting those other tests done to see IF he needs to do tx NOW or if he can wait for better and more assured tx,, THIS current TX is very very difficult at best. Its doable but has a lot of side effects that can become permanent.. And while Im at it,, IF he has no job and is NOT supporting himself,, he can use treatment as a diversion to keep him dependent on you and THAT wont be good for you,,, I DO appreciate the fact that you want to help him,, and that is ever so wonderful of you,, just remember that this is HIS consequence of HIS choices... NOT that he should be punished for making dumb choices,, we ALL have made them in our lives.. but Hep C is EVERY bit as serious as HIV.. Has he been checked for that as well? Many ppl are co-infected especially when sharing needles are in his past. I certainly hope he is not co-infected,, thats a double whammy.. Please feel free to hang with us and ask any question you might have,, we ARE a very tight knit group and we take care of our own,, so please join in our little family and get to know us,, and we can et to know you too,, YOU have much to be proud of hon,, Non many sisters would do what you are doing,, but remember,, YOU have to take care of YOU too! jax modSandy <prettyintherightlight@...> wrote: I joined this group because my brother was diagnosed with Hep C.
