Hi Nellie

We tried Singulair and it had no side effects and Emma did not have an episode

while she took it. We also gave Deselex, an antihistamine, at the same time so

I'm not sure if it was the combination of the two or one of the two that

actually did the job.

Still we were not happy to medicate daily on an ongoing basis so we stopped the

daily singulair and deselex, the episodes did return at some stage and we opted

for T & A which has kept the fevers away for over a year now.

Singulair might be worth a try for you! It's an asthma medication which a lot of

kids take daily and from what I've been told it is not too strong a medication.

Best regards and good luck!

Inga

We used it and it worked great for about 4-6 months and then it stopped working

and the fevers returned, but it was a nice break.  Warning though that we could

never get our insurance to cover the medicine, even after the dr wrote letters

and sent medical journal articles regarding its use.

Hi Nellie

I used singulair for 3 1/2 weeks and had to take my daughter (3yo) off of it

before her cycle was due (every 28 days she is due to get sick Fri or Sat this

week) back in March b/c she was moody, snappy, mean and not nice to be around.

We couldn't take her attitude and how she treated us. I wish I could have seen

whether it would have worked or now but didn't want to keep her on it one day

longer than needed. It takes 5 days to fully get in their system and 5 days to

get out. Not every child has a reaction but there is always a chance. We have

opted not to put any more drups in her body b/c we don't know hte long term

effects of any of it. She will be gettinga a T & A in the 23rd of this month

which we believe is the best way to go for the quality of life she and we

deserve.

Hi Nellie,

I would agree with Inga about Singulair...our stories are quite similar.

Singulair made my son's epidsodes less severe and it gave him more healthy days.

We did not want to keep medicating, so we opted for the T & A a year ago when he

was 3. He has not had a episode since...Amen!!! :). We had no side-effects

with the Singulair. Keep in mind that it takes a few months to get it into their

system. It might not work right away. saw the benefits around 3 months.

Hope your child gets some relief. The T & A was our miracle. This year has been a

complete turn around for our entire family! We love seeing healthy! He is

playing sports and exceling in school. Totally different boy now :).

Amy ( Mom to -age 4-T & A a year ago-Fever free since!)

My son has been on Singulair for over 2 years with no adverse side effects. It

has made his fevers shorter- 2 days maximum and less severe.

Regards,

Mother to 42 months- fevering since 8 months.

Ellen,

I don't have any details, but I'm taking Allegra in the morning and Singular

every night because of post nasal drip.

I just completed 4 rounds of FCR. My pulmonologist is top notch and I see

him about every 3 months and haven't had a problem. Sorry I can't provide

any further details.

Hi ,

Merck provides assistance for those whose insurance does not cover Singulair.

http://www.merck.com/merckhelps/patientassistance/qualify.html

Even with prescription insurance they are willing to work with you if you can prove you have hardships making the deductible due to job loss, medical expenses etc.

Please take the time to call them or at least read all the info provided on the right of the link I attached.

Singular has made such a difference for me. I actually got my SOS back after two operations and ten years..... AND food has taste again. Also sinus headaches are almost a thing of the past.

Another good site that provides drug assistance programs that my ENT provided:

http://www.needymeds.org/

They offer links to various assistanc programs as well as a discount card,

Good luck!
