A place to get natural seeds. Blessings, Joy

----- Original Message -----

Dear Seeders,As someone from Poland just wrote us, "We greet!" It's always such a pleasure to make contact with plant people around the world, and this venue is no exception. We are all bound together by a love of gardening and the natural world. Sometimes we try to analytically unravel the mysteries of seed and soil, other times we simply stand in awe of nature. Both of these approaches provide valuable understanding of the plant/human relationship, enriching our lives with beauty, aroma, food, medicine, oxygen. Its kind of like the way a young child learns-first with intense interest (play) and later by spacing out (processing information). First observation-then thought. First eating then digestion. I've been thinking a lot about these kinds of things. Do we cultivate the plants, or do they cultivate us? Mornings, when the land is enveloped in cold fog, I've been working on the website, adding in tons of new photos. Afternoons, I've been taking photos and picking seeds. Alternating rains, frosts, and bright windy days have rendered the seedheads more fragile-the seeds are easy to gather at this time of year. We're bringing in the last of them: Amaranth, Artemisia annua, Balm of Gilead, Evening Primrose, Savory, Persimmon and Skullcap to name a few. The yellow leaves are drifting down from maple and alder, mulching the Ginseng and Black Cohosh we planted in the forest. Fall colors on the Liquidamber trees. The renewed rushing of Munger's Creek. The frenzied feeding of twittering songbirds, the trumpeting calls of migrating geese, the apples, the first smell of woodsmoke in crisp air. Last night there was a thunderstorm, complete with scary lightning making jagged scars across the mountains and the heavens. As the rain first pelted down, I stuck my hand out the door and felt the largest drops I think I've ever experienced. But by the morning the rain was coming down in a fine mist, shimmering wet curtains pushed around by an incoherent breeze. Tonight is Halloween, and our granddaughter's first birthday. The pumpkins grin despite the burning of their fleshy caps. Mushrooms under the oaks. A bright ring around a waning moon. Give thanks for being alive. Over the door that leads from the seedhouse out into our gardens are written the words "For the Plants." We have a dedicated group of people working here who are very, very serious indeed about bringing you the blessings of these many species, common and rare. Consider giving a LIVE present for Christmas this year. Or treat yourself to some plant companions for the winter. LIVE ROOT season and our FALL NURSERY SALE will be over DEC 1. As always, seeds from us are farm direct, fresh and viable. That's the way we like it. Order early-the new seed is in and availability may be limited on certain species.
