It has been about six months since my desentization and my asthma is

still bad and I still have no sense of smell. I have started Zyflo with

little results. I am going to try the Buteyko Breathing Method and have

classes scheduled at the end of the month. Has any had or has known of

anyone having luck with this method?

I am a firm believer in breath work and yoga breathing...Not had much success

personally because my nose is often blocked...

My desense was, at first, considered a failure, even though I was taking 1300mg

of aspirin daily. I had lots of polyps and inflamation at the time. My allergist

did a 15 day round of prednisone to shrink everything before desens; however, my

symptoms continued to get worse while taking aspirin.

Then, a year later, I had surgery. My ENT did not make me stop aspirin for

surgery. Instead he used the protocol developed at Scrips. Two days after

surgery, and back on full dose aspirin, I could smell again. It's been almost 9

months now and I feel great. I can still smell. I have a few " very early polyp

buds " , but it's been quite a success. After my other surgeries, my doctor

reported full grown polyps at 4 weeks post op. My allergist was visibly giddy,

which was out of character for a normally serious 60 year old man.

So my advice, start with a clean slate. Surgery then desens has seemed to work

so far.
