Guest guest
I'm sorry if I've missed other relevant discussion on this topic. I've got a strep and staph infection in my sinuses, and possible other bacteria. I had no luck with oral antibiotics and have been using a sinus nebulizer with betamethasone, vancomycin and tobramycin for about three weeks. I believe it has helped me with some polyps, but the amount of goo I produce each day never seems diminished or to change in color. I am going to get another culture at the end of next week, but I wonder if I need just to persist or if I haven't had better results by now it is pointless? My ears have been affected since I started using the nebulizer, but I don't know if it is a side effect of the medication, possibly the steroids, or if the infection is getting into my ear canals. Have people had luck with getting rid of stubborn infections with a nebulizer? Has anyone had to use it for many weeks before real results? If it doesn't work is there any other possible treatment to get rid of the infection? Thanks, Joan
Guest guest
Hi Joan,Tobramycin and vancomycin are usually synergistic against staph, and three weeks is normally ample time for a nebulized antibiotic to take effect. Either those strains are particularly resistant, or other germs that are not susceptible to these antibiotics are present. This is assuming that the antibiotic was correctly delivered to all the points of infection. >> I'm sorry if I've missed other relevant discussion on this topic.
