Guest guest
Welcome to the group..I'm curious to know why you have not tried xolair? I started xolair 9 months ago and have seen a dramatic improvement in not only asthma symptoms but my sinus issues as well..no polyps, sinus infections, ear infections, bronchial infections, or asthma attacks since I started the treatment...is there a medical reason it something else?Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide----- Reply message -----From: " ppbmd " <ppbergeron@...>Date: Sat, Mar 5, 2011 4:07 pmSubject: MD With Samters<samters > Hi All: New to group. I am physician with Samters. Diagnosed in 2006 when my nostrils totally occluded with polyps causing protrusion of left eye, severe nasal deviation, lack of smell, rashes with itchy skin, dry mouth, worsening asthma. First had allergic reaction to aspirin and motrin in 1992. Had two surgeries for polyp removal, deviated septum, turbinate resection and antral windows. Able to breath well no matter how bad my polyps expand or how much nasal discharge I have. The ENT did a good job. Went on Feingold diet which helped immensely and continues to. Tested for allergies and have been on shots since. Allergist recommended Xolair but I have not tried it. Take Zyflo, Nasonex, and Advair. Stopped taking antihistamines as I would have severe rebound symptoms. Did aspirin desensitization which helped polyps shrink and taste/smell come back but had to stop because of 6 weeks of nausea and vomiting(eosinophilic gastritis). Tried Pulmicort respules nasal irrigation but stomach irritated by this. Currently doing 0.5% hydrogen peroxide/saline nasal irrigation twice daily which has helped decrease nasal secretions, asthma, and rashes. Learned this from you! Will likely have another surgery for nasal polyps in coming months to enjoy having a sense of taste/smell for a while. Thanks for all your insight and help! Will keep you posted if I have any more successes or failures. PB
Guest guest
Thanks RC! Glad to hear it worked for you. I have not tried it yet because I could  not find any data to support its use. The other challenge for me is bi weekly injections. I find it challenging to make my monthly desensitization injections. Has it worked for anyone else? Guest guest
PB Immunotherapy shots have worked for me to get my environmental allergens under control. It took two years of shots (both arms 2x/week) to work up to monthly maintenance, but the change for me has been incredible. I don't even take a 10mg claritan anymore, and my allergies were very severe. Perhaps you could look at the lysine aspirin desensitization? Liquid drops in the nose - this is more common in Europe I think, but definatley something we should look at as an alternative for those that can't 'stomach' the aspirin therapy. That being said, I was able to temporarily decrease my asprin dose when I started having bad stomach irritation and GERD to give my stomach a chance to heal, and then successfully go back up once I was better. Since then I've been fine, though my aspirin maintenance is now only 325mg/day. Jennie > > Thanks RC! > > > > Glad to hear it worked for you. Guest guest
Xolair has helped me. I receive the injection once a month. My asthma symptoms are almost non-existent and the best part- my daily urticaria is completely eradicated. I used to get hives every day in the afternoon and would typically take Allegra after onset. Not having to deal with hives anymore has been great. Xolair is in a number of clinical trials right now in the US (www.clinicaltrials.gov) if anyone is interested.J MD With Samters<samters > Hi All:New to group. I am physician with Samters.
