alternative to baby shampoo - SinuSurf

I saw my ENT this week and I still think she's great! (For those in Denver, CO

on Kaiser - Dr. Phyllis Bouvier). I sent her the article link that was posted

here quite a while ago regarding putting baby shampoo in your nasal rinse. It

acts as a surfactant and can help break up biofilms. I don't know that she

tried it with any patients, but she did remember and brought this up at the

appointment. Apparently NeilMed is now making and marketing a surfactant called

SinuSurf that " facilitates deeper cleansing and helps remove excess mucus &

dried crusts out of nasal passages " . She has tried that with a few patients and

said they are reporting that it really helps. She said many patients wouls

simply 'freak out' if a doctor suggested putting baby shampoo up your nose, but

are more receptive to something that is packaged for the purpose.

I remember freaking out a little when first told I had to do nasal rinses, so I

can see how some people might react better to a packaged system than to the home

brew initially. So now you can buy nose detergent! It looks like you can buy it

on the NeilMed website or probably other places as well.

Incidentally, I have had great sucess with my treatment and doctors. I've been

reduced to 325mg of aspirin each day, with no inflammation or recurrance of

polyps after being on this dose for almost 3 months. I no longer have to rinse

regularly with budesonide as my sinus is healthy and the aspirin and

immunotherapy shots are controlling my triggers. I am taking no asthma

medications. I feel like I'm in remission! I just hope it stays that way. I'm

a much better mom/wife/employee when I'm well.

Good luck to everyone!

Jennie
