Guest guest
Hi Dave, I am not the best person to reply because of my limited experience but you deserve a reply. There are several members, including the founder of this group who swear by zyflo and have been tracking it's reappearance closely. It is basically the same as Singulair but with some specific differences that Samterites feel are right on target. The problem is that it has a higher liver toxicity risk. Singulair is safer that way so it was favored. Zyflo was discontinued despite a lot of protest. I had a samters savvy allergist who stock piled it to give to his desense patients. He gave me some but I was taking theophylin at the time and they are not compatible. In summary, I think you should try it if Singulair is disappointing. Guest guest
Hi Dave, I started taking Zyflo right before my sinus surgery in mid November. I feel it is making a difference. One interesting thing I noticed is that the rash I usually get when taking high doses of prednisone pre surgery did not appear at all this time. My recovery from surgery was very quick. I just feel less " snotty " so to speak! I feel like it addresses the issue more specifically than steroids. At my two and a half week check up my ENT thought things looked great. After my last surgery I had polyps back immediately. This difference could be to so many things it is hard to figure it all out. But I thought I would give the zyflo a try, since I have tried so many other things- why not! I had planned to do aspirin desensitization but my doctor wants me to do it in the hospital and my insurance won't cover it. ( they feel it is investigational- like everything else we do isn't!) I can't decide if I should do it and pay for it on my own or not. NH Re: Zyflo Hi Dave, I am not the best person to reply because of my limited experience but you deserve a reply. Guest guest
I know your question was for Lori, however... I personally use Pulmicort in my rinses, and I know you can also drop those directly into your nose. > > Hi, > I am in my third week of Zyflo. Guest guest
Maybe you were asking for a different Lori -- there are other Loris here. I don't have any drops. I use Nasonex and spray it and then lay back over the bed. Make sure you get your liver function tested while on Zyflo. It can cause liver damage in some people. Guest guest
My doctor today is encouraging me to try Zyflo again. I tried it about a year ago, but wasn't able to tolerate it without getting a severe migraine. I am wondering if anyone has had the experience of migraine from Zyflo as I am not positive at this point that it was actually the Zyflo that caused the headaches. (I happen to be the Migraine Queen!) Also, I would be interested in any opinions as to whether those who have tried both Singulair and Zyflo feel they get greater benefit from one over the other. Thanks all! Jane
