Bacterial or viral?

Adding another Question

In the case of my friend's grandson who died five days after receiving his

MMR shot: It was diagnosed that his death was due to a very rare viral

pneumonia that is undetectable. They claim that his little heart was

attacked as soon as he went to sleep that day.

Can anyone make any of this clear to me? I have almost no knowledge in the

subject of medicine. Is there anything in the MMR vaccination that could

cause a viral infection? Is this actually undetectable as they claim? (The

mother had him to the hospital two days prior to his death, insisting she

just knew something was wrong with him.) Could this child have contracted

this infection and it attack his heart within one or two days? How could he

have gotten viral pneumonia?

I always get bacterial infections and viral infections mixed up so maybe

someone could refresh my memory, is the Hib vaccine supposed to protect

against bacterial or against viral meningitis? And is it true (I thought I

read it somewhere) that when I child presents at a hospital w/ meningitis

there is no way for them to know if it is viral or bacterial? Thanks in

advance for your replies.

:-)

Yes, he could have within a short time of getting the vaccine.

MMR is 3 viral vaccines.

" undetectable " just means they goofed and didn't find it.

American Chemical Society (2011, June 29). New rapid test tells difference between bacterial and viral infections. ScienceDaily. Retrieved September 16, 2011, from http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/06/110629122753.htm

I LOVE PROACTIVE THINKING! The concept of being able to rapidly test whether an infection is bacterial and viral based on the immune response to it just seems so right.

Quickly giving an antibiotic when needed might save a lot of suffering with people who have chronic infectious disease (especially shortly after the onset of infection) .As well with -holding an antibiotic might also provide benefit to the patient and society in many ways.
