I have just been taken off Singulair by my doctor. In the last few weeks my polyps have been causing significant problems again. I am desensitized and in fact went a whole year without prednisone. Am on a heavy dose of prednisone now.

I am also on Zyflo. I have had blood test for my liver to make sure that I am able to take it and will have monthly blood tests for three months.

Any thoughts?

Why did you doctor take you off Singulair? According to my

allergist, Zyflo affects the leukotriene pathway at an earlier point and is

less specific than Singulair. He really wanted me to take both and said if I do

decide to do aspirin desens he wants me on Zyflo while I go through the

process. However, right now I only take Singulair. I tried to take the Zyflo

to see if it helped, but since it has to be taken twice a day with food, I could

never remember to take it and my schedule of when I took it was erratic since my

meals are not always at the same time every day.

I would think if your liver tests are ok, you can deal with

taking it properly, and it seems to help, then stick with the Zyflo. Supposedly

either it or Singulair is supposed to help those of us with Samters.

Hi ,

He didn't think that Singulair was working anymore. The following seems relevant " It is unclear whether using a drug such as an inhibitor of leukotriene production (Zyflo) is any more beneficial

than using a receptor antagonist (Singulair or Accolate). Studies in asthma do not appear to favor one approach or drug over the other, and there are no data as yet to consider anything differently in the upper

airway."

So I am giving it a trial. Right now it's hard to see if it's working as I am having 40mg of Prednisone a day for two weeks then the taper off.

I must admit the twice a day with food is a complication.

Thanks for the input.
