Guest guest
Hello everyone. I lived with scoliosis for years. I am now 62. Nine weeks ago, I had 8 fusions, L5-T10. I had no choice but to have the surgery because I could barely walk with severe pain in both legs and I was bent over almost at a 40 degree angle when I did have to walk. The surgeon said my spine was like a house of cards and was collapsing. The recovery has been extremely difficult, however I am improving week by week. My main concern is flat back. I noticed that my back now goes straight into my rear with no inward curve and I do want to lean forward when I walk. It's as though I have lost my butt because there is no definition between it and my back. Standing up straight puts a lot of strain on my back muscles and makes my back very sore. My question is, could my current flat back be from swelling and not permanent? My surgeon is said to be the best in the western US. I can't tell, when I press on my back, whether it is swelling. I can't really feel my spine and don't know if I am ever again supposed to be able to feel it. I am obsessing about this and could use some input.
