Guest guest
I'm on another group regarding this very topic, but it is for folks in the SF bay area. You can search biomed approach to autism or DAN doctors (defeat autism now) and you'll find lots of info about the biomedical approach to cure autism and kids with similiar " spectrum " issues. Here's a post I received about a noted speaker/doctor and this topic: > ASA/PHP is proud to present Dr. Martha Hebert, one of the outstanding autism researchers, on Monday, February 11, at Roche Conference Center in Palo Alto. Please note this is not our usual meeting date; Dr. Hebert will be in San Francisco for a conference on Friday February 8 (see end of announcement for more information) and has graciously agreed to stay over to speak to our group. We expect a large turnout for this event, so pre-registration is advised. You will also receive a written reminder. Hope to see you all on Monday, February 11! > > > SPEAKER: Martha Hebert, M.D. Dr. Martha Herbert, Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, Pediatric Neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Director of the TRANSCEND Research Program. She is a frequent national speaker, and has received the Cure Autism Now Innovator Award. She is also the Co-Chair of the Environmental Health Project and directs the Treatment Guided Research Initiative of the Autism Society of America. > > TOPIC: Autism: A Brain Disorder, or a Disorder That Affects the Brain? This talk will explain autism as a systemic whole-body condition that is altered by the environment as well as by genes. This inclusive approach yields a broader range of possible ways of improving quality of life than considering it a genetically determined " hard-wired " untreatable brain condition. > > LOCATION: Roche Bioscience Conference Center, Bldg. A-2. > 3431 Hillview Ave, Palo Alto (directions below) > > DATE: Monday, February 11, 2008 (Note change from usual date) > > TIME: 7:30p.m. - 9:30p.m. Sign-in begins at 7:15 p.m. The lecture begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Please arrive early. > > COST: $10 for PHP members, $15 for non-members > > RSVP: Parents Helping Parents at 408-727-5775 or online at > www.php.com by Friday, February 8. -Pregistration is advised. > > Directions: From 280, Page Mill exit towards Bay, R on Foothill. > From 101, Oregon Exp exit (becomes Page Mill), L on Foothill. > From Foothill, first R on Hillview, L at 2nd driveway. > > Dr. Hebert will also appear on Feb 8 NPART UCSF Symposium: " Medical Approaches in Autism. Clinical Implications of Environmental Toxicology for Children's Neurodevelopment in Autism. " For more information: www.eventville. com/AutismEnvSym - > > Hello, > > This may be somewhat off the topic, but I thought I would share as it > may help someone. > > Perhaps many know this already, but it was news to me. Recently I > have begun researching autism as I guess 1 in 166 kids has this now > and there are a lot of parents trying things with some success. I > just read a book written in 2000 called " Unraveling the Mystery of > Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder - a mother's story of > research and recovery " by Karyn Seroussi (library can get it). Easy > read and interesting - she makes connections between autism and > digestion - specifically the possibility of a yeast overgrowth in the > digestive tract which bores holes in the intestines and causes > undigested proteins to get out and into the bloodstream and into the > brain, causing serious brain impairments. Additionally the yeast > fungus also is toxic to the brain/body. She explains how she coped > with this to heal her son. > > Then I went to www.youtube.com and did a search on autism and found 6 > short video clips by Donna Gates (www.bodyecology.com) and Dr. > Natasha -McBride titled " The cure for autism and mental > illness - part 1 " (the rest are the same title but part 2, 3, etc., > just type title in search box to bring up). They discuss the > importance of probiotics or beneficial bacteria to the health of the > gut, very interesting information as well. Guest guest
For more information on this, look into The Kids Foundation in the United States, and SPD Canada, a group that is just starting up. Both programs have to do with Sensory Processing Disorders which are a large part of Autism, the founder of SPD Canada can provide you with a lot of intestine/yeast/probiotic information as she has been traveling this route with people in her care. She has had a very long and arduous trek however has had some very interesting insights and I'm sure would be happy to share. Best Wishes;
