Guest guest
Re: Child with LD Try using a balance board with your LD child. This will help with left, right hemispheral connection - big picture vs. repeating the bits and pieces of information. Have him read either sitting or standing (book can be on a book frame), while rocking side to side. Poetry and patting out a rhythm on the child's back to the words is a good way to get the body to connect with syllables, with reading patterns and the flow of the story. Provide your child with stories of things that he is already connected to. It would be great if he had some stories about himself - your child's age wasn't mentioned, this will be a factor. For Math, make it as concrete as possible. Put the oranges and apples on the counter. Let your child lift flour bags, pounds of butter, let him see 10 big things, 10 little things etc. so that he can see 10 in various shapes and sizes. Go through many numbers in the same way. Then return to the balance board and take a look at the numbers on a piece of paper. Also try bouncing a ball as many times as a number dictates - catch, somersault, hop etc. Make it playful!
