Guest guest
" Does anyone have any ideas on fun ways to work with an LD child with reading and math skills? He seems to have a lot of trouble moving things into long term memory. " , I think a lot depends on what learning style the child has. My son is a very right-brained visual learner, and we discovered that he couldn't retain information unless he was able to make a picture in his mind of what he was trying to learn. He learned his multiplication facts using the Times Tales program, where there is a visual story for each fact. What a quick turnaround that made! We also began using a program called Time4Learning, that is a multimedia online curriculum that presents the schoolwork in an animated visual format. What a lifesaver! My son is dyslexic, and this program had tools to help him read lessons that before would have been way out of his league. The visual style of the program also helped him retain what he was learning. For specific spelling and phonics issues, we have also made use of two other websites: www.spellingcity.com, which provides both visual and auditory input for learning new words, and www.vocabulary.co.il, which provides fun games for learning new words, another bonus for word retention - - fun! I think it is really important to find out the learning style of any child who is LD, because there are terrific programs out there aimed at each style. Good luck! Kerry Check out the homeschool curriculum that changed our lives. It's Time4Learning. --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
