Guest guest
Hi, I am knew to this site. I had Harrington Rod surgery when I was 14 (almost 23 years ago). For the past 5-10 years, I have had progressive pain in the lower back (all are fused except for the last 2). A few years ago, I went to the doctor who told me that I had degenerative discs and arthritis from the rod and the surgery. I went again today to the same spine specialist as my pain is quickly increasing and I had a horrible spell with sciatica a month ago. He tells me that he could not see enough on the x-Ray - to get an MRI although, we may not get a clear reading because of the metal of the rod. Also that the disc are horribly degenerated. He did not discuss Flatback syndrome or anything else. Also, he has not really discussed a plan of treatment - except that after the MRI, we may look into Physical Therapy, Medicines, or Shots. I am pretty confused with all of this. What I should I be looking for in the way of treatment? What should I be discussing with him? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
